Reuters reported that at a campaign event on the evening of August 10 (US time) in Las Vegas, Nevada, Kamala Harris made several commitments, including ending the tax on tips.
"I promise everyone here that when I become president, I will continue to fight for working-class households by raising the minimum wage and abolishing the tax on tips for service and hospitality workers," Harris said.

Former US President Donald Trump campaigned in Montana on August 9th.
Tipping is a familiar cultural practice in the US, and this money is subject to taxation by law. The Republican Party has long pledged to abolish the tip tax to attract voters. However, a segment of service industry workers prioritize higher pay over eliminating the tip tax, according to NBC News.
Writing on the social media platform Truth Social on August 10, Trump said Harris had "copied" his policy of not taxing tips.
“The difference is she (Harris) wouldn’t do that. She just wants to achieve her political goals. This is Trump’s idea, she could only have stolen it from me,” he wrote. In June, Trump also campaigned in Las Vegas and said he would seek to end the tipping tax.
Meanwhile, on August 11th, CBS News aired an interview with US President Joe Biden, his first television interview since withdrawing from the presidential race.
President Biden said that his predecessor, Donald Trump, "is a real threat to American security."
Biden also dedicated part of the interview to explaining his decision to suspend his campaign. One of the reasons given was that Democrats argued that a sitting president continuing to run could negatively impact the races for both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
"If I were to run again, it would become a topic of discussion and cause distraction. Furthermore, while it would be an honor to be president, I believe I have a duty to the country to do what is most important, which is to defeat Trump," President Biden said.
Biden said he made the important decision while at home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, with his family. He announced he was suspending his campaign on July 21.
