Sa Huynh Culture - The Origin of Pottery

Quang Ngai has long been known as the cradle of Sa Huynh culture, and pottery making is the soul of this culture. Ancient Sa Huynh pottery, dating back 2,000 to 3,000 years, played a crucial role in the life and spiritual activities of the Sa Huynh people. However, over the millennia, this traditional pottery craft is facing the risk of extinction.
Currently, the number of households still practicing the traditional pottery craft is not large, mainly concentrated in Trung Son and Vinh An hamlets, Pho Khanh commune. This area is also located next to An Khe lagoon, the birthplace of the unique Sa Huynh culture.
The vibrancy of pottery in modern life

The craftsmen are restoring and reviving the ancient pottery tradition.
Today, products from Sa Huynh pottery village not only serve domestic needs but also make a significant contribution to the tourism industry. Small, exquisite items such as earthenware pots, kettles, pancake molds, stoves, and vases... not only have practical value but are also unique works of art.
In addition, some ceramic products are also manufactured for architectural construction and decoration in hotels and restaurants, creating a special highlight for the space.

The recognition of Sa Huynh pottery making in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage is not only an affirmation of its long-standing cultural value but also a driving force for the preservation and promotion of traditional pottery making.
This is also an opportunity to promote and introduce Sa Huynh culture to domestic and international tourists, contributing to the development of tourism and the local economy .
