According to TASS news agency, the press service of the Russian Caspian Fleet stated that warships of the Russian and Iranian navies conducted a three-day joint patrol in the Caspian Sea. The ships have now completed their mission and are returning to their bases.
Russia deployed small gunboats and missile ships of Project 21630 (Buyan-class), Volgodonsk and Astrakhan, while Iran assigned the task with the patrol boats Shahid Nazeri, fast attack craft Joshan and frigate Deylaman.
During joint patrols of the central and northern areas of the Caspian Sea, Russian and Iranian sailors addressed challenges related to protecting shipping lanes, controlling maritime traffic, and combating piracy.
During the three-day mission, they conducted joint maneuvers, as well as practiced defense and protection of naval task forces during a sea voyage. Russian and Iranian naval officials took turns commanding the operations.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Su-35S air superiority fighter jets of the Russian Aerospace Forces had carried out a patrol mission over the neutral waters of the Black Sea to prevent foreign aircraft from violating the country's sovereign airspace.
The Su-35S (NATO classification: Flanker-E+) is a highly maneuverable, 4++ generation multirole fighter aircraft designed with fifth-generation technology.
