On July 22, news from the Department of Education and Training of Ha Tinh province (GD&DT) said that Tran Minh Hoang, an 11th grade student at Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted, had just won a Silver Medal at the 2024 International Mathematics Olympiad, with 23 points, ranking second in the Vietnamese team.

The 65th International Mathematical Olympiad 2024 will be held in the UK, with 609 contestants from 109 countries and territories. The contestants will take part in 2 official exam days with a duration of 4.5 hours/day.

According to the regulations, the Organizing Committee officially awarded prizes to 50% of the participating contestants. In addition, the Organizing Committee also awarded certificates of merit to students who achieved the maximum score on a math problem.

In 2024, the Vietnamese team participating in the International Mathematical Olympiad had 6 students participating. As a result, the Vietnamese team won 5 medals (2 silver medals, 3 bronze medals) and 1 certificate of merit.

With the Silver Medal of Tran Minh Hoang, this is the third consecutive year that the Ha Tinh Department of Education and Training has had students win international medals.

It is known that, in addition to the above Silver Medal, Hoang has also won many medals and awards in competitions such as: First prize in the Math Club for Children, silver prize in the Math by Mail competition on Math for Children 2 in the 2019-2020 school year; gold medal in the US International Math Competition in 2019; gold medal in the English Math Olympiad in 2019; silver medal in the Singapore Math Olympiad in 2019; gold medal in the Singapore Math Olympiad and Asian countries in 2019; special prize in the Young Math Talent Search Competition in 2019...
