The Ministry of Education and Training recently announced 6 candidates selected to participate in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2025.

The six candidates include: Tran Minh Hoang (grade 12, Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted); Vo Trong Khai (grade 12, Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Nghe An province); Nguyen Dinh Tung (grade 11, Hanoi National University); Truong Thanh Xuan (grade 11, Bac Ninh province); Nguyen Dang Dung (grade 12, Hanoi National University) and Le Phan Duc Man (grade 12, Ho Chi Minh City).

The couple have impressive achievements.

Speaking with Dan Tri reporter , Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Luong, Principal of Nguyen Trai Secondary School (Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh), said that among the above candidates, there are 2 former students of the school.

Accordingly, male students Tran Minh Hoang and Vo Trong Khai are former students of class 9E, Nguyen Trai Secondary School.

Khai was born in the coastal commune of Xuan Hoi, Nghi Xuan district, his parents were businessmen. The male student has been passionate about math since childhood. In the entrance exam to grade 10 of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted (Nghe An) in 2022, Khai scored 20/20 points in math.

Through that, the excellent male student became 1 of 5 candidates with perfect scores in the specialized subject and was the only candidate with perfect scores in the entrance exam to the specialized math class of this prestigious school (the remaining 4 candidates entered the specialized IT class).

During his studies, Khai has achieved many impressive achievements such as: Gold Medal in the Young Mathematical Talent Search (MYTS) in 2019; Gold Medal in the International Mathematical Olympiad (AMO) in 2019 and 2021; Gold Medal in the Global English Mathematical Proficiency Assessment (SEAMO) in 2019; Silver Medal in the 7th Iran Geometry Olympiad in 2020...

Tran Minh Hoang (grade 12, Ha Tinh Specialized High School) was born in Xuan Thanh commune, Nghi Xuan district, with both parents being teachers.

Just like his old school friend, Hoang showed his talent for mathematics from a young age and has won many awards at international mathematics competitions such as:

Gold Medal in the English Math Olympiad (SEAMO) 2019; Silver Medal in the Singapore Math Olympiad (SMO) 2019; Gold Medal in the Singapore and Asian Math Olympiad (SASMO) 2019; Special Prize in the Young Mathematical Talent Search (MYTS) 2019; Gold Medal in the Iran Geometry Olympiad for Intermediate Level 2022...

Tran Minh Hoang participated in the 2024 International Mathematical Olympiad and won a Silver medal.

With the above achievements, the male student was later awarded the Third Class Labor Medal by the President in 2024.

Last February, Tran Minh Hoang was nominated for the Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces Award organized by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

Hue has 3 candidates in the national team to compete in international and regional Olympics.

According to the results of the national team selection exam for the 2025 regional and international Olympic competitions announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, Hue city has 3 candidates in the top. All 3 candidates are from Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted.

Teacher Nguyen Phu Tho, Principal of Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted, said that in the team selection exam, the school had 4 students taking the exam, in the subjects of biology and physics.

As a result, 3 students were selected to join the national team to compete in international and regional Olympics with quite high scores.

Bui Hoang Dai Duong was selected to attend the International Biology Olympiad; Tran Trung Hieu and Tran Le Thien Nhan were selected to attend the Asian Physics Olympiad.

Up to now, the Ministry of Education and Training has not announced the exam scores, but according to the list of teams, the 3 candidates from Hue are in the first, second, and third positions.

According to teacher Nguyen Phu Tho, at the national excellent student exam for the 2024-2025 school year, candidates Dai Duong, Trung Hieu, and Thien Nhan all won second prize in their subjects.

In particular, Bui Hoang Dai Duong is one of the typical faces of Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted. In grade 10, Duong won third prize in biology at the national excellent student competition, and in grade 11, he won first prize.

In 2024, both Trung Hieu and Dai Duong entered the second round of the Olympic competition.

Mr. Tho said that in recent years, Hue National High School for the Gifted has achieved many results in national excellent student competitions, international and regional Olympics.

To date, the school has won 24 international and Asia-Pacific awards, including 4 gold medals, 9 silver medals, 6 bronze medals and 5 certificates of merit.

The school has "collected" a full set of international medals in all 5 subjects held in the competition: math, physics, chemistry, biology and informatics.
