Demand for higher education increases

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, there are about 733,000 students who have registered for university admission out of a total of more than 1 million candidates who registered for the high school graduation exam. At the regular Government Press Conference on the afternoon of August 5, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son said that the number of candidates registering for university admission in 2024 is quite high, reaching 68.5%. Two years ago, this rate was 66.5% and about 64%.

“This proves that the demand for university education among high school graduates is increasing. Regarding the labor market, it shows that the demand for highly qualified human resources in society is also increasing. This is consistent with the socio-economic development trend of the country,” Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son assessed.

Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son added that this also proves that the trust of learners and society in the quality of university education has had positive changes in recent years.

Regarding the trend of candidates choosing training majors, compared to previous years, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son said that the candidates' choice of majors has changed because they are carefully advised on characteristics, career opportunities as well as closely following information about the labor market. Therefore, the trend of choosing majors and training fields reflected through their wishes shows positivity.

Business and management majors continue to attract candidates

As every year, there are a total of nearly 400 training majors, divided into 24 fields. According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, the field with the most candidates registering is business and management, followed by engineering and technology. STEM fields such as computers and information technology also have many students registering.

This year, the block of educational sciences training teachers, that is, the pedagogical industry, also has a large number of registered candidates.

Compared to 2023, the fields with an increase in the number of candidates registering for their wishes: Teacher training science increased by 85%; Natural science, although accounting for a small proportion, had a 61% increase in the number of wishes; Semiconductor design industry increased by about 30%...

Meanwhile, there are some fields that have decreased: Business and management decreased by 3%, equivalent to 24,000 wishes; computers and information technology decreased by about 5%, equivalent to 15,000 wishes...

For the STEAM block of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, the registration rate accounts for 30%. This block has maintained good growth in recent years and the total number of applications increased by 11% this year...
