The demand for higher education is increasing.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training , approximately 733,000 students registered for university admissions out of a total of over 1 million candidates who registered for the high school graduation exam. At the regular government press conference on the afternoon of August 5th, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son stated that the number of students registering for university admissions in 2024 is quite high, reaching 68.5%. In the two previous years, this rate was 66.5% and around 64%, respectively.
The ratio of candidates registering for university admission preferences to the total number of candidates taking the high school graduation exam has increased compared to previous years.
"This demonstrates an increasing demand for higher education among high school graduates. Related to the labor market, it shows a growing need for highly skilled personnel. This is consistent with the socio-economic development trends of the country," Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son assessed.
Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son added that this also demonstrates the trust of students and society in the quality of higher education, which has seen positive changes in recent years.
Students' choices of majors have shifted positively, reflecting a greater focus on career characteristics, opportunities, and the labor market.
Regarding the trends in students' choices of training programs compared to previous years, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son stated that students' choices have changed because they have received thorough advice on the characteristics and career opportunities, as well as closely following information about the labor market. Therefore, the trends in choosing majors and training fields, as reflected in the students' aspirations, show a positive trend.
