First date like a nightmare

“Drop” is a horror thriller from the famous horror film studio Blumhouse. The main character in the film is Violet, a single mother who is eagerly preparing for her first date after a long time chatting on a dating app. Her target is Henry, a handsome and humorous guy who makes Violet anxiously wait for the next developments of this first meeting.

However, the joy did not last long when Violet received terrifying threatening photos sent via AirDrop. This mysterious person seemed to be following her every move and was ready to attack her family if Violet did not follow his demands. Not stopping there, he also asked her to kill Henry, her date because he was holding some secrets related to him.

It can be seen that Drop still has many secrets and twists waiting for viewers besides the thrilling details. The suspenseful, tense details are full of heart-stopping moments. Can Violet overcome her fear to expose the true face of her enemy?

Through “Drop”, the filmmaker wants to reflect on the insecurity as technology increasingly intervenes in human life, while condemning pressing social issues such as domestic violence, psychological trauma and the dark side of modern technology.

Screen Rant praised “Drop” as a dramatic and entertaining mystery thriller that brought a sense of satisfaction they hadn’t experienced in the genre in a long time.

Discussing Film writer Andrew J. Salazar used the words “super fun” and clever to praise “Drop” for using the Digidrop idea (inspired by AirDrop) to create surprise and tension.

The Guardian said that the story is tightly constructed in a single space, reminiscent of Hitchcock's style, with an attractive "whodunit" detective element. The theme of insecurity in the technological age is handled skillfully, timely and easy to sympathize.

In terms of acting, the female lead Violet played by Meghann Fahy is praised as the soul of the film. She successfully brought a fragile yet strong and determined performance. Together with Brandon Sklenar, the two created an interesting couple that brought emotions between the line of life and death.

The movie “Drop” will premiere on April 11, 2025 in Vietnamese theaters.
