Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Hau Giang Province, Dong Van Thanh, affirmed: The great victory in the spring of 1975, culminating in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, ended the 21-year resistance war against the US to save the country, full of hardship but extremely glorious, bringing the country back together, the North and the South reunited, opening a new era for the nation - the era of independence, freedom, unity, the whole country moving towards socialism.

In that heroic epic, the army and people of Hau Giang, a resilient land of the Southwest, wrote glorious pages of history. With an important strategic position, Hau Giang was once a "hot spot" that was heavily attacked by the enemy. But it was also here that the indomitable spirit and indomitable will of the people flared up fiercely: from the movement to destroy the "secret area" of Vi Thanh - Hoa Luu in 1960, to the resounding victory in the Chuong Thien counter-offensive campaign - defeating 75 enemy battalions in 1973, contributing to the bankruptcy of the "pacification of the South" strategy of the US imperialists.

Reviewing the heroic tradition, the Provincial Party Secretary also emphasized: The victory of April 30 is not only a brilliant milestone in the history of the nation but also the starting point of the journey of building and developing the country. Together with the whole country, after the liberation day, Hau Giang province, formerly Can Tho, quickly carried out the reconstruction and development of the homeland. The province has both taken advantage of the leadership and timely support of the Central Government and relied on the people, closely following reality, being flexible, dynamic and creative in leading and directing revolutionary movements, especially in the process of implementing the renovation policy in accordance with local conditions.

Since then, the province has achieved many important achievements in various fields; gradually improved the material and spiritual life of the people; became a purely agricultural province with an average rice output of more than 1 million tons/year, contributing to the whole country overcoming the prolonged economic crisis, maintaining national defense and security, performing well in Party building work, creating a solid foundation for comprehensive development in the following stages.

Promoting traditions: Patriotism, solidarity, affection, loyalty, dynamism, courage, intelligence

In 2004, when it was first separated from Can Tho province, Hau Giang had a low starting point, facing many difficulties and challenges. The Party Committee and the people of Hau Giang were united, joined forces, promoted traditions, inherited important achievements through historical periods, with strategic vision, correct decisions, daring to think, daring to do, strongly promoting internal strength, taking advantage of opportunities, arousing aspirations, and taking drastic actions, Hau Giang has developed dramatically, achieving quite comprehensive and impressive results in all fields.

In particular, since the beginning of the 14th Provincial Party Congress (2020-2025 term) up to now, based on the analysis and correct assessment of the position, potential, strengths and development opportunities in the new period, the Provincial Party Committee has boldly proposed strategic breakthrough tasks, aiming to gradually realize the great aspiration: to build Hau Giang province to develop rapidly, sustainably, comprehensively and inclusively; soon become a fairly good province in the region and the whole country.

With high political determination, the province always upholds the spirit of "Innovation, breakthrough, determination, aspiration"; on the basis of promoting internal strength, taking advantage of the golden period, Hau Giang has achieved many outstanding achievements in various fields: In 2024, the provincial economy achieved high growth; in the first quarter of 2025, GRDP increased by 9.57% - leading the Mekong Delta. The work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses reached 95.8% of the plan, expected to be completed before May 19, 2025 - on the occasion of the anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday. The administrative apparatus is streamlined, effective and efficient; the political system operates increasingly synchronously and scientifically.

Faced with the new situation, the Secretary of the Hau Giang Provincial Party Committee expressed his determination: promoting the tradition of "Patriotism, solidarity, loyalty, dynamism, courage and intelligence" of the Hau Giang people, the Party Committee, government and people of Hau Giang province will overcome all obstacles, together with the whole country, successfully complete the revolution of streamlining the apparatus, building a modern and transparent political system, improving the quality of service to the people, and expanding development space for the future.

Emphasizing that this is a historic mission, requiring unanimity, high determination, and the spirit of innovation, daring to think, daring to do, daring to take responsibility of each cadre and party member, and the consensus and strong response from the people, the Secretary of the Hau Giang Provincial Party Committee affirmed: “Every step and action of ours today has profound significance, contributing to realizing the goal of building Hau Giang province and Can Tho city after the merger to develop rapidly, sustainably, and comprehensively as expected by generations of leaders and people in the province, to join the whole country in firmly entering a new era - the era of national growth.
