Faced with the situation of the number of dairy cows in Don Duong and Duc Trong districts (Lam Dong) dying en masse and continuing to increase, on August 9, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien signed a document to send to the People's Committee of Lam Dong province requesting to focus on implementing measures to prevent and control diarrhea in dairy cows.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, immediately after receiving information about the mass death of dairy cows in Don Duong and Duc Trong districts (Lam Dong) and signs of diarrhea, on August 7, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien directed the Department of Animal Health and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong province to focus on remedial measures.

On August 7, the Department of Animal Health established a delegation to Lam Dong province to coordinate the implementation of disease prevention and control measures and investigate to determine the cause. During the night of August 7 and August 8, the Department of Animal Health delegation visited households with sick and dead cows to collect samples for investigation and determine the cause.
During the night of August 8 and August 9, the Department of Animal Health's laboratories will test and identify agents that can cause diarrhea in cows (including: viral diarrhea with mucous membranes in cows, Lumpy skin disease; diseases caused by Clostridium perfringens, Salmonella, E.coli; some types of mold, toxins...). Initial results are expected within 1-2 days.
To urgently organize the identification of the cause and immediately implement measures to prevent and control the epidemic, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requests the People's Committee of Lam Dong province to direct localities, departments, branches, professional agencies and livestock owners to temporarily stop using Lumpy Skin Disease vaccine and vaccines to prevent other diseases on cattle herds throughout the province to organize an investigation and determine the cause of diarrhea in dairy cows.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also requested the People's Committee of Lam Dong province to send leaders along with representatives of the government, professional agencies, and mass organizations to discuss and encourage livestock owners, especially those whose livestock are sick or dead, to coordinate with the government and professional agencies to implement prevention and control measures, investigate and determine the cause; and promptly provide immediate support solutions for livestock owners.
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong province, more than 3,700 cows of 163 households in 4 communes: Ka Do, Quang Lap, Tu Tra (Don Duong district) and Hiep Thanh (Duc Trong district) have been recorded to have diarrhea; the total number of dead cows is 101 from 39 households, of which Duc Trong district has 25 cows, Don Duong district has 76 dead cows.
