In response to the mass and continuing death of dairy cows in Don Duong and Duc Trong districts (Lam Dong province), on August 9th, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien signed a document gửi to the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee requesting the focused implementation of measures to prevent and control diarrhea in dairy herds.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, immediately after receiving information about the mass death and diarrhea of ​​dairy cows in Don Duong and Duc Trong districts ( Lam Dong province), on August 7th, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien directed the Department of Animal Health and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong province to focus on remedial measures.

On August 7th, the Department of Animal Health established a team to go to Lam Dong province to coordinate the implementation of disease prevention and control measures and investigate the cause. During the night of August 7th and throughout August 8th, the working group from the Department of Animal Health visited households with sick or dead cattle to collect samples for investigation and determination of the cause.

During the night of August 8th and throughout August 9th, laboratories of the Department of Veterinary Medicine will conduct tests to identify potential causes of diarrhea in cattle (including: viral bovine mucoid diarrhea, lumpy skin disease; bacterial diseases caused by Clostridium perfringens, Salmonella, E. coli; some types of mold, toxins...). Preliminary results are expected within 1-2 days.

To urgently organize the identification of the cause and immediately implement disease prevention and control measures, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requests the People's Committee of Lam Dong province to direct localities, departments, agencies, specialized bodies, and livestock owners to temporarily suspend the use of vaccines against Lumpy Skin Disease and other diseases in cattle herds throughout the province to organize an investigation and determine the cause of diarrhea in dairy cattle.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also requested the People's Committee of Lam Dong province to send leaders along with representatives of the government, specialized agencies, and mass organizations to discuss and encourage livestock owners, especially those whose livestock are sick or have died, to cooperate with the government and specialized agencies in implementing prevention and control measures and investigating the cause; and at the same time, to urgently provide immediate support solutions for livestock owners.
