On August 10, the BelTA news agency quoted Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko as saying that the country's air defenses had shot down several airborne targets in the south of the country. These targets were believed to be attack drones launched from the direction of Ukraine.
BelTA quoted President Lukashenko as stating: “At 7:04 PM (August 9th), at an altitude of 1.5 km and a range of 6.5 km, air defense forces destroyed several targets on Belarusian territory. Throughout the night and this morning, the search for the downed targets is underway. These were drones attacking Belarusian airspace from Ukraine.”
According to Minister Khrenin, special forces units and missile systems have been deployed to the Gomel and Mozyr tactical directions. He said: “ Military units of special forces, ground forces, missile forces, including Polonez missile systems and Iskander complexes, have been tasked with marching to designated areas.”
The Belarusian Defense Minister said the decision was made following reports of fighting in the Kursk region of western Russia. He emphasized that the Belarusian military is closely monitoring developments in Kursk and Ukraine and is ready to respond.
