On August 10, BelTA news agency quoted Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko as saying that the country's air defense forces had shot down several aerial targets in the south of the country. These targets were believed to be drones attacking from the direction of Ukraine.
BelTA quoted President Lukashenko as saying: “At 19:04 (August 9), at an altitude of 1.5 km and a range of 6.5 km, air defense forces destroyed several targets on the territory of Belarus. During the night and this morning, the search for the downed targets is underway. These are drones that attacked Belarusian airspace from Ukraine.”
According to Minister Khrenin, special forces units and missile complexes have been deployed to the Gomel and Mozyr tactical areas. “Military units of special forces, ground forces, missile forces, including Polonez missile systems and Iskander complexes, have been assigned to march to the designated areas,” he said.
The Belarusian defense minister said the decision was made after reports of fighting in the Kursk region of western Russia. He stressed that the Belarusian military was closely monitoring developments in Kursk and Ukraine and was ready to respond.
