*Pork prices in the Northern region:
In the pork market in Northern Vietnam, purchase prices remain relatively stable.
Except for Tuyen Quang, which saw a slight increase of 1,000 VND/kg, raising the price of live pigs to a high of 66,000 VND/kg, the remaining provinces and cities in the region continued to maintain stable prices in this morning's trading session.
Today's live pig price in Northern Vietnam is in the range of 64,000 - 66,000 VND/kg.
According to the Hai Phong Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, one of the reasons stems from the fact that livestock farmers have begun to become complacent, not strictly adhering to biosecurity procedures in livestock farming, and not proactively vaccinating their animals against diseases.
In addition, monitoring results of African swine fever virus circulation in 2023 at several pork and pork product markets in the city revealed that 3.96% of samples tested positive. This indicates that there is always a potential risk of disease outbreaks and spread in the area.
In response to this situation, in addition to emergency measures to contain and control the disease, the Hai Phong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has sent a document to localities, households, and livestock farms regarding the use of African swine fever vaccines. However, to date, the percentage of pigs vaccinated against African swine fever in the city remains very modest, with only over 7,000 fattening pigs vaccinated, accounting for nearly 6% of the total fattening pig herd, according to the Agriculture Newspaper.
*Pork prices in the Central and Central Highlands regions
The Central and Central Highlands regions witnessed scattered decreases in live pig prices of 1,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, after the adjustment, the price of live pigs in the provinces of Dak Lak, Ninh Thuan, and Binh Thuan decreased to 61,000 VND/kg, 62,000 VND/kg, and 63,000 VND/kg respectively.
Traders in other areas are buying live pigs at the same price as at the same time yesterday morning.
Currently, the price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 61,000 - 64,000 VND/kg.
*Pork prices in the Southern region
In the southern region, pork prices have also decreased in many areas.
After a slight decrease of 1,000 VND/kg, traders in areas including Vinh Long, Ben Tre, Ho Chi Minh City, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Tay Ninh, and An Giang are purchasing live pigs at prices ranging from 61,000 to 64,000 VND/kg, depending on the region.
Live pig prices in other localities remained unchanged this morning.
Currently, the purchase price in the South ranges from 61,000 to 64,000 VND/kg.
Domestic and international pork prices are fluctuating in opposite directions.
According to statistics from the Import-Export Department, while pork prices in the international market tended to rise again in July, domestic pork prices decreased slightly.
In the second quarter of 2024, both the supply of pigs and pork production in exporting countries recorded a decline, driving up pork prices.
