Long An - During the flood season, Tan Lap floating village appears like an oasis hidden among the melaleuca forests in the sea of water.
Located approximately 100km from Ho Chi Minh City, Tan Lap Floating Village lies on National Highway 62, passing through Tan Lap commune, Moc Hoa district, Long An province. The total area of the floating village is about 135 hectares, situated in the heart of the Dong Thap Muoi region. With its picturesque natural scenery and vast melaleuca forests, Tan Lap Floating Village is gradually becoming a must-visit destination for tourists visiting Long An province. Explaining the name "floating village," many former residents say that this area used to be flooded year-round, so the local people mostly built houses on stilts. Each time the water level rose, the houses were also raised accordingly. Over time, people became accustomed to using the name "floating village" to refer to this area. Currently, Tan Lap floating village has been planned by the government as an eco -tourism area and no longer has residents living there. Tan Lap floating village is most beautiful during the flood season from August to December. When the water arrives, lotus and water lilies begin to bloom in the rice fields surrounding the floating village. The white expanse of the water gradually punctuated by the pink of the lotus and water lilies, blending with the lush green of the melaleuca forests, creating an incredibly peaceful and tranquil scene. I got to experience setting traps to catch fish, cycling through the mangrove forest. I ate sour soup and braised fish at a restaurant next to the lotus pond, then paddled a small boat to admire the scenery around the flooded rice fields. For a panoramic view, visitors can climb the 38-meter-high observation tower amidst the mangrove forest. From this height, the floating village will appear like a green raft in the vast expanse of water. Alternatively, visitors can choose to experience paddling a traditional three-leaf boat through the mangrove forest to admire Tan Lap floating village from a different perspective. Visitors can also choose to travel along the melaleuca forest trail to observe birds such as egrets and herons. This trail is a small path located in the melaleuca forest, 1 meter wide, with a total length of 5 km when all the smaller paths are combined. Famous for its dreamy and romantic scenery, the melaleuca forest trail is the most popular check-in spot for tourists visiting Tan Lap floating village. This location is where experts in bird care and training create a suitable habitat to attract many species of birds and egrets from the wild to gather here, forming large flocks. The island, currently home to thousands of birds, including egrets and herons, contributes significantly to the conservation of rare and endemic animal and plant species in Tan Lap floating village. The entrance fee to the Tan Lap floating village eco-tourism area is 70,000 VND per person. A traditional sampan boat ride costs 70,000 VND per person; a motorboat or cable-pulled boat tour costs 80,000 VND per person, along with many other service packages at listed prices. For accommodation, visitors can choose standard 2-star hotel rooms within the resort area or nearby hotels.
