Erecting electricity poles in the Northwest highlands.

Việt NamViệt Nam19/11/2024

Traveling along the desolate roads of Northwest Vietnam, seeing the power poles precariously perched on mountaintops stretching as far as the eye can see, many people worry about having to approach or climb them. Yet, the transmission line soldiers here, day and night, pack their bags and travel along all the power lines, wherever there are power poles, whether they are on mountaintops or right next to ravines in the forest...

The location of marker 25 is situated amidst a forest on the mountainside of Luc Yen district ( Yen Bai province ).

Bringing electricity to the people of the Northwest region of Vietnam has required months of hard work under the sun and rain for the electricians. Vietnam.vn presents to you the image of these dedicated electricians through the photo series "Erecting Power Poles in the Northwest Highlands" by author Tran Huy Hung. Regardless of scorching sun, torrential rain, or freezing cold, with their love for their profession, the power transmission line workers in the Northwest are always ready to go at the first sign of the wind, overcoming challenges with the local people to ensure a safe and stable power supply. This photo series was submitted by the author to the "Happy Vietnam" photo and video contest, organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications . The power line passes through many areas with rugged and difficult terrain in the Northwest highlands. The 220 kV double-circuit power line connecting the Bac Quang 220 kV substation is a key project of the Vietnam Electricity Group aimed at evacuating the full capacity of small and medium-sized hydropower plants in Ha Giang province to the national power grid.

Many workers have been in the profession for over 12 years, so they are accustomed to the rain, sun, and hard work. Worker Lo Van Quang of Song Da Company is working at pillar number 25.

On hot days, the workers would work on the poles for about an hour before coming down to rest and change shifts.

Workers of Song Da 11.5 are installing the VT25 pylon in Luc Yen district (Yen Bai province).

Worker Lo Van Tien, from Dien Bien province (Song Da 11 Joint Stock Company), said that this is one of the highest points under construction, so transporting and installing equipment is very difficult.

Dozens of workers are diligently constructing each pole position where the land has been handed over, ensuring that the wires can be strung as soon as the compensation for the transmission line corridor is completed.

Each pole-installing team typically consists of 12-13 people, divided into two shifts.

Installing a single pole usually takes about 4-6 days. Every day, the team members have to wake up early and walk up the mountain for almost an hour to get the work done.

Amidst the sweltering heat of July 2022, in the Northwest highlands, workers from Song Da 11 Company were diligently constructing the 220kV power line connecting to the 220kV Bac Quang substation in Ha Giang province. This project aims to fully utilize the capacity of small and medium-sized hydropower plants in Ha Giang province, connecting them to the national power grid. The 43km power line, spanning 171 pylons across Bac Quang district (Ha Giang) and Luc Yen district (Yen Bai), is situated in rugged mountainous terrain. The workers are overcoming the harsh sun and wind of the highlands to accelerate construction and bring the project into operation as soon as possible, serving the people of the Northwest provinces. In 2024, the "Happy Vietnam" photo and video contest will continue to be organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists on the website.   https://happy.vietnam.vn is open to all Vietnamese citizens and foreigners aged 15 and above.
