Expected schedule for the 2025 high school graduation exam.

2025 will be the year when the first cohort of students under the new general education program will take their high school graduation exams. Currently, the high school graduation exam consists of six subjects: Mathematics, Literature, Foreign Language, Natural Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or Social Sciences (History, Geography, Civic Education). Thus, from 2025 onwards, the number of subjects and the number of exam sessions will be reduced by two and one.

Regarding the method for recognizing high school graduation in 2025, the Ministry stated that it will combine the results of ongoing assessments and the results of the graduation exam in appropriate proportions.

In addition, the exam will maintain its paper-based format until 2030, after which a pilot program will be implemented for computer-based testing in multiple-choice subjects.

School starts simultaneously on September 5th.

According to the 2024-2025 school year timetable recently issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, the opening ceremony for the new school year will be held on September 5th, as in previous years.

The earliest time students can return to school is one week before the official opening ceremony.

For first grade specifically, students will start school at least two weeks before the official opening ceremony. The first semester will end before January 18, 2025, completing the curriculum and concluding the school year before May 31, 2025.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, localities should base their own plans on the above school year framework, tailored to the characteristics of each region, ensuring that the local school year schedule guarantees 35 weeks of actual learning (18 weeks in the first semester and 17 weeks in the second semester).

Public holidays are observed in accordance with the Labor Code and annual guiding documents.
