Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station is assigned to manage and protect the border area with a length of over 43km, including Hoanh Mo border gate, one of the major trading gates of Quang Ninh province with China.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Hoang, Political Commissar of Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station, said: In order to effectively manage activities at the border gate, the Party Committee and commander of the unit are interested in building a team of specialized officers in charge of inspecting and controlling import and export activities with strong political will, a firm grasp of the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, treaties and agreements related to border management and protection, and knowledge of border gate operations and foreign affairs. Along with that, the unit also focuses on training and improving the professional qualifications and foreign languages of officers and soldiers, along with promoting digital transformation and focusing on the application of information technology in handling work. Thereby, improving the quality of import and export management at the border gate, ensuring data entry, quick and accurate professional lookup, and shortening the time to handle administrative procedures.
In order to create the most convenience for people and tourists, from February 25, 2025, along with customs clearance by border resident pass, the Hoanh Mo (Vietnam) - Dong Trung (China) bilateral border gate has implemented customs clearance by passport and travel book for tourists. The subjects of customs clearance are citizens of Vietnam and China (with passport, XNC pass, XNC pass in border area). Customs clearance time is from Monday to Friday every week according to Hanoi time zone; morning from 8-9 am, afternoon from 3-4 pm. According to Beijing time zone, the morning starts from 9-10 am and the afternoon from 4-5 pm. The customs clearance for tourists and border residents through the Hoanh Mo (Vietnam) - Dong Trung (China) border gate pair will open up many opportunities for cooperation, economic, cultural and border tourism exchange between the two localities.

Major Nguyen Van Vuong, Head of the Hoanh Mo Border Control Station, Hoanh Mo Border Control Station, said: To ensure smooth implementation of immigration activities, the station's officers and soldiers have promoted the application of information technology in conjunction with administrative procedure reform, deploying an automatic control gate system to shorten the immigration control time from 3-4 minutes previously to less than 50 seconds/person, creating favorable conditions for citizens of the two countries to complete procedures quickly, safely, and in accordance with legal procedures.
Ms. Ngo Thi Thuy, Hoanh Mo commune (Binh Lieu district) happily said: Carrying out customs clearance for XNC with passport and travel book is done quickly, conveniently, greatly reducing time and costs. If before, I had to exit through Mong Cai international border gate to Dong Hung city and then had to travel by car for about 3 hours to Dong Trung (China), now it only takes me a few minutes to exit with my passport through Hoanh Mo border gate to visit relatives. The border gate's functional forces are also enthusiastic in guiding and helping passengers when requested.
In the context of increasing traffic of people, transit vehicles, import and export goods through the border gate, the good management of the border gate and the Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station have contributed to creating favorable conditions for integration, socio-economic development, as well as maintaining political stability, social order, sovereignty and border security.
