On the afternoon of April 29, at Ca Mau Airport, the third phase of the site handover ceremony of the Ca Mau Airport Upgrade and Expansion Project took place.
The event is an important milestone, affirming the strong determination of the relevant parties in accelerating the progress and preparing for the groundbreaking of the two main items of the project: the passenger terminal and the runway, expected to be deployed in June 2025.
The ceremony was attended by leaders of Ca Mau Airport and Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ca Mau City, Land Fund Development Center of Ca Mau Province, and representatives of local authorities of Tan Thanh Ward and Ward 6 People's Committee, Ca Mau City.
In this handover, the handed over site includes many key locations, playing a strategic role in the implementation of the construction of the new runway and the expanded passenger terminal.
Mr. Pham Thanh Lam, Director of Ca Mau Airport, said that in this handover, the handed-over site includes many key locations, which play a strategic role in the implementation of the construction of a new runway and an expanded passenger terminal. These are two key items to improve the reception, service and operational capacity of the port in the coming time.
Up to now, after 3 handovers, the total area of land that Ca Mau Airport has received is 72.24 hectares and it is expected that the entire area will be handed over before May 30, 2025.
Immediately after receiving the handover of the site, ACV quickly coordinated with Lung Lo Construction Corporation - Bomb and Mine Disposal Center to conduct a survey and clear explosives in the newly transferred area. This is an important step to ensure absolute safety for the upcoming construction work, while complying with strict regulations on labor safety and risk prevention in aviation infrastructure construction.
Representatives of Ca Mau Airport and local authorities signed the third phase of site handover.
According to the plan, mine clearance will be carried out in each area, with priority given to locations where runways and passenger terminals are expected to be built in the first phase. ACV is committed to following technical procedures and working closely with relevant authorities to complete this work as soon as possible, ensuring the overall progress of the entire project.
The project to upgrade and expand Ca Mau Airport is a key project of the province, of strategic significance in strengthening regional connectivity, attracting investment, promoting local socio-economic development and tourism. When completed, the airport will be able to receive medium-range aircraft such as Airbus A320, A321, with a capacity to serve about 1 million passengers per year. The continued handover of the third phase of the site is not only a concrete step forward in terms of procedures and techniques, but also demonstrates the determination and consensus of the entire political system and people of Ca Mau province in putting this key project into operation soon, meeting the expectations of sustainable development of the province in the future.
