The rehearsal started at 10pm, but according to the organizers' plan, at exactly 2pm, the Vietnam People's Army delegation departed from their mobile accommodation to Red Square. Although the distance was not too far, strict security procedures as well as concerns about traffic jams in Moscow made the organizers ask the delegations to arrive early to prepare.

On the afternoon of May 3, the weather in Moscow was quite nice, sunny and warm with temperatures above 10 degrees Celsius. However, the weather got colder as the night went on. Because it was the weekend, there were quite a few Muscovites gathered around the Red Square area.
