The National Innovation Center (NIC) has just coordinated with Tresemi Organization, Cadence Corporation (USA) and FPT Corporation to organize a seminar on Promoting the role of Vietnamese enterprises in developing human resources in the semiconductor industry.
This event is the result of close cooperation between 3 parties: the State, the school, and the business. In which, the State plays a creative role, the school plays a central role, and the business plays a companion and support role to improve the quality of training and meet the requirements of the market.
The discussion focused on how businesses can actively contribute to the training and skills development process for human resources, from diversifying training resources, promoting public-private partnerships, diversifying training types, internship programs, research and development cooperation, to building a working environment and creating favorable conditions for career development.
From local practice, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, said that Da Nang has made efforts to create a favorable environment for businesses to participate in developing human resources for the semiconductor industry.
Specifically, the City has been implementing many solutions and tasks, focusing on 3 groups of solutions: Building legal bases, creating policies to attract investment; preparing land funds and infrastructure; linking and cooperating with businesses in training, developing human resources and attracting experts in the fields of microchips, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence.
Mr. Vu Hai Quan, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that the participation of state agencies and enterprises in the training process is very necessary, helping to improve the quality of training, thereby creating favorable conditions for students after graduation and meeting market needs.
From a business perspective, Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of FPT, said that the key factor to enhance cooperation between the three parties in developing human resources for the semiconductor industry is close and effective coordination between the three parties, especially the need for a clear mechanism to share information, resources and experience among the parties involved.
The event also held the Closing Ceremony of the Basic Very Large Scale Integrated Circuit (VLSI) Physical Design Program. This is a 3-month intensive course organized by NIC in collaboration with FPT Corporation, Tresemi Organization and Cadence Corporation with the support of universities in the semiconductor field.
Thus, by 2030, at least 25,000 IC design engineers can be trained. This shows that the goal of training 15,000 IC design engineers out of a total of 50,000 semiconductor engineers by 2030 is completely feasible.
The program's input is more than 70 excellent students selected from major universities across the country to receive scholarships and participate in the course. Up to now, nearly 20 students have been accepted to work at large corporations and design enterprises in microchip design such as: Marvell, Synopsys, FPT, Faraday, Samsung...
Many students also received scholarships to continue their post-graduate studies abroad. This result shows that the quality of the training program is highly appreciated and can be replicated in the future.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said that NIC's coordination with domestic and international partners to develop microchip design training programs is an important step in the journey of Vietnamese people gradually mastering technology in the semiconductor industry.
“This is an important solution to promote the breakthrough in the value of Vietnamese people in the Socio-Economic Development Strategy for the period 2021-2030. The cooperation between the Government - institutes, schools - enterprises that we are witnessing today is the lever for unprecedented development and innovation in the technology sector of Vietnam,” Minister Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized.
