The National Innovation Center (NIC), in collaboration with Tresemi, Cadence Group (USA), andFPT Group, recently organized a seminar on "Promoting the Role of Vietnamese Businesses in Developing Human Resources for the Semiconductor Industry."
This event is the result of close cooperation between three parties: the State, schools, and businesses. In this collaboration, the State plays a facilitating role, schools act as the central hub, and businesses provide support and assistance to improve the quality of training and meet market demands.
The seminar focused on how businesses can actively contribute to the training and development of human resources, from diversifying training resources, promoting public-private partnerships, diversifying training types and internship programs, collaborating on research and development, to building a favorable work environment and creating opportunities for career development.
Based on local experience, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, stated that Da Nang has made efforts to create a favorable environment for businesses to participate in developing human resources for the semiconductor industry.
Specifically, the city has been implementing numerous solutions and tasks, focusing on three main groups: building legal frameworks and creating policies to attract investment; preparing land and infrastructure; and linking and cooperating with businesses in training and developing human resources and attracting experts in the fields of microchips, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence.
Mr. Vu Hai Quan, Director of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, stated that the participation of state agencies and businesses in the training process is essential, helping to improve the quality of training, thereby creating favorable conditions for students after graduation and meeting market demands.
From a business perspective, Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of FPT, believes that the key factor in strengthening cooperation among the three parties in developing human resources for the semiconductor industry is close and effective coordination, especially the need for a clear mechanism to share information, resources, and experience among the relevant parties.
The event also included the closing ceremony for the Basic Large-Scale Physical Integrated Circuit (VLSI) Design program. This was an intensive 3-month course organized by NIC in collaboration with FPT Group, Tresemi Organization, and Cadence Group, with support from universities specializing in semiconductors.
Thus, by 2030, it is possible to train at least 25,000 integrated circuit design engineers. This shows that the goal of training 15,000 integrated circuit design engineers out of a total of 50,000 semiconductor engineers by 2030 is entirely feasible.
The program's intake consists of over 70 outstanding students selected from major universities nationwide, who are awarded scholarships and allowed to participate in the course. To date, nearly 20 students have been hired by large corporations and businesses specializing in integrated circuit design, such as Marvell, Synopsys, FPT, Faraday, and Samsung.
Many students also received scholarships to continue their postgraduate studies abroad. This result demonstrates the high quality of the training program and its potential for expansion in the future.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said that NIC's collaboration with domestic and international partners to develop integrated circuit design training programs is an important step in Vietnam's journey to gradually master technology in the semiconductor industry.
“This is a crucial solution to promote breakthroughs in Vietnamese human values within the socio-economic development strategy for the period 2021-2030. The cooperation between the Government, research institutes, universities, and businesses that we are witnessing today is a leverage for unprecedented development and innovation in Vietnam's technology sector,” Minister Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized.
