In order to diversify and innovate activities for the overseas Vietnamese community in the spirit of Conclusion No. 12-KL/TW of the Politburo on overseas Vietnamese work in the new situation, especially towards the young overseas Vietnamese generation, from August 4-9, 2024, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese - Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated with relevant agencies to organize the program "Overseas Vietnamese children and teachers in Korea visit Vietnam 2024".
The delegation consists of 35 delegates, including 30 students aged 10 to 13 and 5 overseas teachers. During their 6 days in Vietnam, the delegation will visit and experience Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Quang Ninh.
The program is not only an opportunity for children to return to their homeland, learn and experience the cultural and historical values of the nation, but also an opportunity for them to meet and interact with friends of the same age, together building beautiful and meaningful memories. The program is also an opportunity for children to explore famous historical and cultural sites of the country and experience the life and customs of the nation. Through the activities, children will understand more and be proud of their homeland, connect with their roots, thereby building national pride, solidarity and a sense of responsibility to the community.
The Vietnamese community in Korea is one of the fastest growing communities (currently with nearly 277,000 people); the community has a spirit of solidarity, hard work, study, and quickly integrate into the host society. This is a young community, newly formed after the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1992.
In Korea, the demand for learning Vietnamese is increasing and is actively supported by the local government. Since the 2018 school year, a number of high schools have included Vietnamese in their official curriculum. In addition, implementing the multicultural policy, the Korean government has supported multicultural centers in provinces and cities nationwide to organize Vietnamese language teaching for children of Korean-Vietnamese cultural families and Korean students interested in Vietnamese. Since 2014, Korea has chosen Vietnamese as the second foreign language in the university entrance exam./.
