Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí19/11/2024

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Trinh Van Vinh registered a weight of 128kg for the men's 61kg snatch event in weightlifting at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He failed all three attempts and was eliminated early.
Trinh Van Vinh carried the hope of ending Vietnam 's medal drought at the 2024 Olympics; however, it seems he was not in his best physical condition and his coaching was not well-calculated, leading to an early failure. The coaching staff miscalculated Trinh Van Vinh's peak performance timing, registering a rather high snatch weight (128kg). Unfortunately, the weightlifter born in 1995 failed in all three attempts, resulting in no recorded achievement and early elimination, even being excluded from the clean and jerk. With Trinh Van Vinh's failure, the Vietnamese delegation still has no medals after 15 out of 16 athletes have competed. Vietnam now has only one athlete left to compete at the 2024 Olympics: rower Nguyen Thi Huong, who will compete in the women's 200m single canoe qualifying round (3:30 PM on August 8th). Trinh Van Vinh suffered an unexpected defeat.
Athletes will compete in order of weight from lowest to highest, regardless of the attempt (each athlete has 3 attempts). Trinh Van Vinh's initial weight was ranked 9th (from lowest), however, he will compete later because if other athletes register lower weights than Trinh Van Vinh in the 2nd and 3rd attempts, they will still compete first. Kaimauri Erati competed first; he successfully lifted his registered weight of 95kg in his first attempt. He registered 100kg in his second attempt but failed. In his third attempt, Erati successfully lifted 100kg. Thus, Erati's snatch performance was 100kg. Because all three of Erati's registered weights were lower than the initial registered weights of the other 11 athletes, he competed alone in all three snatch attempts. Shota Mishvelidze successfully lifted 114kg on his first attempt, and then 121kg on his second attempt. Mishvelidze registered a third weight of 128kg, which he failed to lift. His result was recorded as 121kg. Morea Baru successfully lifted 118kg on his first snatch attempt. Baru's registered weight on his second attempt was 122kg, which he failed to lift. He also failed on his third attempt. Baru's snatch result was 118kg. Hampton Morris successfully lifted 122kg on his first attempt, and registered 125kg on his second attempt but failed. On his third attempt, Morris successfully lifted 126kg. The American athlete's snatch performance was recorded as 126kg. John Febuar Ceniza had no success as all three of his snatch attempts at 125kg were unsuccessful. Theerapong Silachai succeeded on his first attempt with his registered weight of 127kg. The Thai athlete tried a second time with 130kg and succeeded. Regaining his confidence, Silachai succeeded on his third attempt with 132kg. Mohamad Aniq bin Kasdan succeeded on his first attempt with 126kg, failed on his second attempt with 130kg, but succeeded on his third attempt. Trinh Van Vinh failed with 128kg on his first snatch attempt. On his second attempt, the Vietnamese weightlifter was again unsuccessful. On his third attempt, Van Vinh still couldn't lift the weight successfully; he even fell backward onto the floor and nearly got crushed by it. Sergio Massidda failed on his first snatch attempt with a registered weight of 132kg. Surprisingly, Massidda increased the weight to 134kg on his second attempt, but still failed. On his third attempt, still at 134kg, the Italian athlete was unsuccessful. Therefore, Massidda's performance was not counted. Ivan Petkov Dimov failed on his first snatch attempt with a registered weight of 132kg. Dimov surprisingly increased the weight to 134kg and still failed. He then attempted to lift 135kg, but failed again. Therefore, the Bulgarian athlete's performance was not counted. Eko Yuli Irawan failed on his first attempt with a registered weight of 135kg. On his second attempt, the Indonesian athlete succeeded. On his third attempt, Irawan registered a weight of 139kg, but he failed. Irawan's snatch result was 135kg.
