According to Reuters , citing the source, the two candidates vying for the running mate position alongside Harris are Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Shapiro, 51, enjoys strong support in Pennsylvania, which has 19 electoral votes, making it a crucial state for both Harris and Trump.
As a former state attorney general, Shapiro would give Harris an added advantage. If he wins, Shapiro would also be the first Jewish Vice President, while Harris would become the first woman of color elected President of the United States.
Meanwhile, Walz, 60, a former member of the U.S. National Guard and a former teacher, has previously supported progressive policies such as free school meals and expanded paid leave for workers.
Walz received support from white voters in rural areas. Although Minnesota is a strong Democratic stronghold, the state is close to Wisconsin and Michigan, two crucial battleground states.
Choosing a vice presidential candidate is one of Harris's crucial decisions in order to challenge the Republican duo of Donald Trump and JD Vance in the race this November.
Harris is expected to announce her choice on August 6th, before making her first public appearance with her vice presidential candidate that evening at Temple University in Philadelphia to kick off her campaign tour in battleground states.
