Less than a year after Prime Minister Srettha came to power in a deadlocked general election, Thailand's politics have once again been thrown into turmoil by the Constitutional Court's decision to remove him from office on Wednesday.

Currently, the Pheu Thai Party is facing a choice between Mr. Chaikasem Nitisiri, a veteran figure in the party, and Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Choosing Ms Paetongtarn could be risky given her family history in politics, with both her father and aunt having been ousted as Thai prime minister in previous coups.
The Pheu Thai Party alliance currently has 314 seats in the Thai House of Representatives and is expected to have no difficulty electing a new prime minister if the coalition holds.
However, the final decision on choosing Mr. Srettha's replacement will greatly affect the future of the Pheu Thai Party in Thai politics and Ms. Shinawatra's political destiny.
