"Van Vuong" is the latest fashion collection by designer Dung Nguyen, recently unveiled.
This collection is inspired by the traditional Vietnamese bodice (áo yếm), the four-panel dress (áo tứ thân), and Bai Tu Long Bay.
A new perspective on the traditional Vietnamese bodice and four-panel dress.
Designer Dung Nguyen primarily uses environmentally friendly fabrics such as silk, taffeta, and organza for his "Van Vong" (Lingering Feelings ) collection.
In terms of color, the male designer chose a bright palette. This includes pristine white, the pink of lotus flowers, the blue of the sea, and the vibrant red of a sunset over the ocean.
All of these elements combine to create a harmonious symphony of colors, vibrant and joyful.
"These designs represent the convergence between traditional culture and modern fashion."
It's still the same bodice and four-panel dress, but it's been modified to be softer, more flowing, and more approachable, especially for young people.
"Traditional culture is inherently beautiful, but it needs to be more accessible to suit the tastes of today's youth, while simultaneously promoting its traditional beauty," Dung Nguyen shared with Tuoi Tre Online.
The highlight of the designs is the use of flowers as the main motif. These include vibrant, colorful chrysanthemums, pristine white lilies of the valley, or radiant lotus flowers…
Fashion enthusiasts can clearly recognize the image of the ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress) that Dung Nguyen has transformed from the ao yem (bodice) and ao tu than (four-panel dress) through details of the collar, hem, or sleeves.

The "Enchanting" collection comprises 40 designs.

The photos were taken in Trang An, Ninh Binh.

The collar and skirt details are taken from the familiar ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress).
Through the "Enchanting" collection, Dung Nguyen wishes to honor each woman as a beautiful, radiant flower with its own unique value.
"No matter what kind of flower it is, let's be beautiful, confident, and radiate fragrance in our own way," Dũng Nguyễn emphasized.
In this collection, in addition to applying traditional hand embroidery techniques, Dung Nguyen also incorporates beading techniques, creating 3D shapes on organza fabric, giving the wearer a light and airy feel.
Many artists favor Dung Nguyen's designs.
Dung Nguyen shared that his entry into fashion design was a matter of fate. His starting point was as a makeup artist with 15 years of experience in the profession.
"At that time, I thought that makeup and clothing had to be related and coordinated to highlight each person's unique beauty."
"From that thought, I started dabbling in design and became involved in fashion through self-learning without any formal schooling," Dũng Nguyễn recounted.

The halter top was designed to be more comfortable for the wearer.

Dung Nguyen prefers vibrant colors.
He launched the Tulip brand of hand-embroidered ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress), which attracted attention in Hanoi during Tet (Lunar New Year) and was chosen by many families to wear.
Dung Nguyen has helped many people change their perspective, from being hesitant to wear the ao dai or thinking it makes them look older… to loving the ao dai more and choosing to wear it for important events.
After 8 years pursuing design, Dung Nguyen launches many new collections every year, which are favored by many famous artists such as: artists Lan Huong, Kim Xuan, beauty queens Ky Duyen, Luong Thuy Linh, singer Duong Hoang Yen, actresses Hong Diem, Phan Minh Huyen, Thuy Anh…
In addition, many artists have also chosen his wedding fashion designs for their big day, including Midu, Ho Quang Hieu, Phuong Mai, Rhymastic, Pong Chuan, MC Duc Bao, MC Mai Ngoc, and others.
Dung Nguyen revealed that this year he will be holding a fashion show to mark his more than 8-year journey of working with the ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress).

Designer Dung Nguyen likens each design to a flower.

Floral patterns add a striking touch to the designs.
Speaking about his reasons for moving south, Dung Nguyen shared: "Ho Chi Minh City is a dynamic area with great potential for artistic development. Like many people, I want to live, work, and contribute in a dynamic and developing environment like Ho Chi Minh City."
