The 2025 HSA exam structure consists of three parts, of which two are compulsory: Mathematics and Data Processing, Literature - Language.

The Mathematics and Data Processing section consists of 50 questions, which candidates must complete in 75 minutes (with 35 questions in the form of 4-choice multiple-choice questions and 15 fill-in-the-blank questions). The Literature - Language section consists of 50 multiple choice questions, which candidates will complete in 60 minutes. The questions use materials related to many areas of life such as literature, language (vocabulary, grammar, communication activities, language development and language variations, writing), culture, society, history, geography, and art.

The third part allows candidates to choose either Science or English. The test time is 60 minutes.

For the Science section, candidates are asked to choose three out of five topics: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History and Geography. Each topic has 17 questions (including one experimental question). The English option consists of 50 multiple-choice questions designed for admission to foreign language training programs.

The HSA exam questions are approximately 75% 4-choice objective multiple choice questions and 25% fill-in-the-blank questions.

If last year, cluster questions only appeared in the language test, from 2025, the Hanoi National University's competency assessment test will add cluster questions in all test sections and exam topics. Cluster questions include general topics and specific questions that develop and assess candidates' competencies from low to high levels.

Cluster questions will exploit rich data sources, assess students' thinking in each field and across fields. These are changes in building a question bank for competency assessment exams.

According to the representative of the Hanoi National University Examination Center, the sample test provides the question format and test structure for students to build a study plan that meets the requirements of the exam. In the sample test as well as the official test, the questions are not arranged from easy to difficult and are randomly shuffled according to a fixed matrix.

Candidates take the sample test to familiarize themselves with the test format, review additional knowledge and skills, and practice time management. The test score will be calculated based on the total number of correct answers, and no points will be deducted for incorrect answers. In the official test, the score achieved on the computer will appear after the candidate finishes the test.

Candidates can access https://tk.cet.vnu.edu.vn/ or https://hsa.edu.vn/ to take the test on computers from September 1, 2024.

The Hanoi National University Aptitude Test is one of the largest private exams in the country. Currently, about 90 universities use this test score for admission.

In 2024, the Hanoi National University's competency assessment exam will be held in 6 sessions, starting from March 23 to June 2, 2024 at 19 testing locations.
