On the morning of August 3rd, in Hanoi, the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam convened to nominate and elect the General Secretary of the 13th Central Committee. Comrade Pham Minh Chinh, member of the Politburo and Prime Minister, chaired the meeting on behalf of the Politburo. Before the meeting began, the Central Committee observed a moment of silence in memory of the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. At the meeting, based on Party regulations and the Politburo's personnel nomination guidelines, the Central Committee, demonstrating a high sense of responsibility, focused its intellect, engaged in democratic discussion, and unanimously elected Comrade To Lam, member of the Politburo and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, with an absolute majority of 100% of votes, to the position of General Secretary of the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam . General Secretary To Lam delivered a speech affirming the continuation and development of the revolutionary achievements built by the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and previous generations of leaders.
