According to the elders, village chiefs, and respected figures in the Thanh Y Dao community, passed down through generations, the story goes: Long ago, a celestial general led his army through this region. After a long journey without finding drinking water, he arrived here and found a clear stream. He was overjoyed and ordered his troops to stop. However, because his army was large and the stream was small and long, he used his hands to widen and deepen the stream so his soldiers could have enough water to drink. In his haste, the rising water soaked his armor. He took off his armor, wrung out his robe, and looked for a place to dry it. He used a pole to support himself between two mountain peaks (the Dai and Da Chong rocks). Since Da Chong was lower than Dai, he gathered rocks and placed them on the mountaintops to level the two sides before using the pole to dry his robe.

The locals later called that ravine Khe Mung (Ming Stream), and built a shrine at the foot of the mountain in that area to worship him (no ruins remain today). The mountain where he hung his clothes to dry was called Nui Chong (Stone Chong Mountain).

This destination has been included in the city's research, with calls for businesses to invest in its development, aiming to expand tourism in the northern hilly area of ​​Ha Long, linking it with experiences of historical relics and the cultural identity of the highland ethnic groups.

To visit Da Chong Mountain, tourists can go to the center of Hoanh Bo district (the intersection near the district health center); continue along National Highway 279 for about 19km to Khe Lieu, Bang Ca commune, and rent a boat on the lake for about 45 minutes to Khe Mung, then walk following the directions for about 1.5 hours to reach the destination.

Tourists can combine a trip along the route from the center of Hoành Bồ district through the guava, apple, and sugarcane farms of Sơn Dương and Dân Chủ communes (Hoành Bồ), while also visiting the Quảng La flower paradise and the Thanh Y Bằng Cả Dao ethnic minority cultural conservation area.
