Coast Guard in Phu Quoc continuously detects many fishing vessels violating IUU

(NLDO) - The Coast Guard has escorted the three fishing boats to Port Squadron 422 in Phu Quoc to continue investigating and handling them according to the law.

On the afternoon of April 27, the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 (based in Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province) announced that with the spirit of resolutely fighting against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, from April 23 to 27, the functional forces of Coast Guard Region 4 Command continuously arrested 3 fishing vessels violating IUU in the Southwest sea.

Fishing vessel BD 93992 TS was caught red-handed by the Working Group of the Coast Guard Region 4 while storing and transporting 3 tracking devices of other fishing vessels.

Violations on Ship BD 93992 TS

Accordingly, at 4:20 a.m. on April 27, while performing a mission in the historical waters of Vietnam - Cambodia, the Working Group of the Coast Guard Region 4 Command caught fishing boat BD 93992 TS red-handed storing and transporting 3 voyage monitoring devices (VMS) of another fishing boat.

This ship is captained by Mr. Vo Trung Hau (born in 1975; permanent resident of Vinh Quang, Rach Gia, Kien Giang), with 2 crew members on board. Through initial verification, the 3 devices above belong to fishing boats in Kien Giang province.

Previously, on April 23 and 24, while performing patrol, inspection and control tasks against IUU violations in the overlapping waters of Vietnam - Malaysia - Thailand, the functional forces of the Coast Guard Region 4 Command discovered and inspected 2 fishing vessels with signs of violations.

Through the struggle, the captains of the two fishing boats confessed that the BD 94713 TS boat had arbitrarily removed the journey monitoring device and sent it to the BD 41204 TS boat. Although on April 18, in the waters bordering Cambodia, the authorities had recorded the 2 fishing boats for arbitrarily removing the journey monitoring device and asked the 2 captains to bring the boats back to shore for handling. However, the captains of the fishing boats BD 41204 TS and BD 94713 TS did not comply and continued to operate the boats in the waters bordering Thailand.
