The patient is Dang An, born in 1992, from Hoai Thanh commune, Hoai Nhon district, Binh Dinh province, a crew member of fishing boat BD 98291TS. Based on the initial medical history, the patient had surgery for a left femur fracture in 2011.
According to Mr. Dang Duong, captain of fishing boat BD 98291TS, while fishing 20 nautical miles from Song Tu Tay Island (Truong Sa archipelago, Khanh Hoa province). On April 26, the patient dived 3 times, the first dive at 8:00, diving time 1 hour 15 minutes, the second dive time 2 hours 30 minutes, the third dive started at 12:30, down to a depth of about 35m, diving time 2 hours 30 minutes, ending the dive at 15:00.
After boarding the ship, the patient experienced pain, numbness, weakness in both limbs, and slurred speech; at about 1:30 a.m. on April 27, 2025, the patient was taken to Song Tu Tay Island infirmary for emergency treatment in a conscious state with good communication.

After receiving the patient, Song Tu Tay Island infirmary reported to superiors and conducted an examination. Doctors and nurses diagnosed the patient with acute decompression sickness, severe level (type 2) due to diving 35m deep, 11th hour.
The doctors consulted with the Naval Medical Institute to treat re-increased blood pressure according to protocol 6, including intravenous fluids, oxygen therapy, catheter placement, anti-platelet aggregation, brain tonics, increased nerve conduction, pain relief, and monitoring of the patient's general condition; promptly reporting the patient's progress.
