50 years ago, on April 30, 1975, the liberation flag flew over the roof of the Independence Palace. The Ho Chi Minh Campaign was a complete victory. The resistance war against American imperialism ended, the country was reunited. In the long march to protect national independence, each Vietnamese citizen contributed in different ways to the resistance.
Journalists and war correspondents who did not directly hold guns also overcame hardships, fought side by side with the people in the countryside to boost production, serve the war and join the troops on the battlefield. Journalists Dinh Quang Thanh and Tran Mai Huong are two of such journalists and war correspondents.
As veteran journalists of the Vietnam News Agency and members of the spearhead team that followed the army to liberate Saigon, journalists Dinh Quang Thanh and Tran Mai Huong marched together, crossed passes, waded through streams, crossed forests, and overcame dangers to record moments of battle. The journalists' photos are extremely authentic, have priceless historical value, and will live forever, becoming sources of information about life, production, and fighting, and demonstrating the people's determination for peace, independence, and freedom.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, many valuable photos that the two journalists had preserved for half a century were presented to the National Archives Center III. Attending the ceremony, journalist Ngo Minh Dao - one of the veteran war correspondents - also presented the National Archives Center III with a collection of photos about war correspondents. Along with the photo presentation ceremony, on this occasion, the journalists shared many special and touching stories about their works and their years on the battlefield.
Receiving the works of the journalists, Dr. Tran Viet Hoa, Director of the National Archives Center III, respectfully thanked the journalists for preserving the precious photos and trustingly handing them over to the Center. Ms. Hoa said that in order for the national historical photos to serve the public more and have national value, on April 29, 2025, in the joyful, bustling, and jubilant atmosphere of the whole country celebrating the reunification day, the National Archives Center III organized to receive the precious photos from the journalists.
Dr. Tran Viet Hoa also said that the National Archives Center III is an archival agency with the function of storing and preserving all documents produced and formed by the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Along with the blocks of documents and photos being preserved at the Center, the photographic works donated to the Center by war journalists have a lot of meaning, contributing to clarifying and more fully many important events of the country, including the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign.
In the coming time, the Center will continue to organize many activities such as seminars, information and exhibitions to promote the value of the above works along with the valuable documents preserved at the Center to contribute to the cause of national construction. The Director of the National Archives Center III also expressed his hope that journalists will continue to send documents and images about their lives and careers preserved at the Center so that the document collection will be more complete and rich.
