Vietnamese pomelos have officially been granted "visa" to enter South Korea.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - From the beginning of August, Vietnamese businesses have officially been allowed to export fresh pomelos to South Korea.
After three months of extensive consultation with stakeholders, the Korea Animal and Plant Quarantine Administration (APQA) has officially announced on its website the import regulations for fresh pomelos from Vietnam to South Korea. Thus, pomelos are the third fresh fruit from Vietnam officially permitted for import into South Korea, along with dragon fruit and mangoes. This is a significant step forward, opening up great opportunities for Vietnamese agricultural products to access the international market. In particular, with a market of over 51 million people, South Korea is a very promising market for Vietnamese pomelos. The country currently has 105,400 hectares of pomelo orchards, producing nearly 905,000 tons; with diverse varieties characteristic of each region. The Mekong Delta alone accounts for approximately 32,000 hectares with a production of about 369,000 tons... Provinces with large grapefruit growing areas include Ben Tre (8,824 hectares), Vinh Long (8,619 hectares), and Dong Nai (5,426 hectares), with famous grapefruit varieties such as green-skinned grapefruit, Nam Roi grapefruit, and Tan Trieu grapefruit...

To date, fresh Vietnamese pomelos have been exported to 13 countries and territories. At the end of 2022, this fruit officially received its export visa to the US and New Zealand markets, resulting in a dramatic increase in export revenue. To facilitate Vietnamese businesses wishing to export pomelos to South Korea, the Plant Protection Department is sending documents outlining import conditions to relevant units for dissemination to organizations and individuals. According to the requirements of the South Korean authorities, areas producing fresh pomelos for export to South Korea must register annually with the Plant Protection Department for management and supervision. The Department must also notify the plant and animal quarantine agency of the list of grapefruit growing areas, export packing houses, and hot steam treatment facilities that have been registered before commencing the annual export of fresh grapefruit... The grapefruit is also required to be free from plant quarantine pests as stipulated by South Korea, and must not be treated with hot steam... Export inspections will be conducted by Korean and Vietnamese plant quarantine officers on 2% of the total number of cartons or 600 grapefruits per shipment.
