According to a CBS News/YouGov poll released on August 4th, Harris is tied with Trump in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Arizona, leading by two points in Nevada, while Trump leads by one point in Wisconsin and three points in Georgia and North Carolina.
The poll results, conducted from July 30th to August 2nd with 3,100 registered voters, have a margin of error of 2.1%.
According to the poll, Harris leads Trump by one point nationwide, with a 50%-49% margin, a much better position for the Democrats than when President Joe Biden was still in the race. With the addition of an independent candidate, Harris's lead over Trump increased to two points.
In related election developments, on the same day, at his home in Washington D.C., Vice President Harris met with three leading candidates to be his running mate in the November election: Josh Shapiro (Governor of Pennsylvania), Tim Walz (Governor of Minnesota), and Mark Kelly (Senator from Arizona).
According to Reuters , Harris could announce her decision as early as August 5th, before appearing with her vice presidential nominee at a campaign rally on August 6th in Philadelphia.
Harris's campaign committee is also drafting a press release introducing her ticket. Candidates will be notified on the night of August 5th or the morning of August 6th whether they have been selected.
Choosing her running mate will be one of the most important decisions in Vice President Harris's political career, as she must quickly reorganize her campaign committee to challenge Republican opponent Donald Trump, just three months before the election.
Harris's decision will also influence the direction of the Democratic Party, as it will likely shape who will be in a position to run for president of the United States in the future.
