According to a poll released by CBS News/YouGov on August 4, Ms. Harris tied with Mr. Trump in the states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Arizona, leading by 2 points in Nevada, while Mr. Trump led by 1 point in Wisconsin, 3 points in Georgia and North Carolina.
The poll was conducted from July 30 to August 2 among 3,100 registered voters, with a margin of error of 2.1%.
According to the poll, Ms. Harris leads Mr. Trump by 1 point nationally, 50%-49%, a much better position for Democrats than when President Joe Biden was in the race. With independent candidates added, Ms. Harris leads Mr. Trump by 2 points.
In election-related developments, on the same day, at his home in Washington DC, Vice President Harris met with three leading candidates to run for the November election: Josh Shapiro (Governor of Pennsylvania), Tim Walz (Governor of Minnesota) and Mark Kelly (Senator of Arizona).
According to Reuters , Ms. Harris could announce her decision as early as August 5, before appearing with the vice presidential nominee at a campaign rally on August 6 in Philadelphia.
Harris’s campaign is also drafting a ticket announcement. Candidates will be notified on the night of August 5 or the morning of August 6 whether they have been selected.
Choosing her running mate will be one of the most important decisions of Vice President Harris' political career, as she must quickly reorganize her campaign committee to challenge Republican rival Donald Trump, just three months before the election.
Ms. Harris' decision will also affect the direction of the Democratic Party because it will likely put her in a position to run for the US presidency in the future.
