The Wall Street Journal reported that, starting in May 2022, Ukrainian officials began discussing the possibility of detonating the gas pipeline. Ukrainian businessmen agreed to finance the plan, which involved several divers and a woman disguised as a tourist on a yacht.
This plan was encouraged by Zelensky, but he tried to stop it after the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) learned about the operation.
According to American reports, President Zelensky ordered a halt to operations at the request of the CIA, but former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny ignored the order.
Later, Zaluzhny completely changed the original plan. He enlisted former Ukrainian special forces officer Roman Chervinsky to organize the attack.
* Recently, German media reported that prosecutors in the country have issued an arrest warrant for a Ukrainian diving instructor, accused of participating in a sabotage attempt on Nord Stream pipelines in 2022.
According to the newspapers Die Zeit and Sueddeutsche Zeitung , German investigators believe the Ukrainian suspect, identified only as Volodymyr Z., was one of the divers who planted explosive devices in the Nord Stream pipelines.
Europe's largest economy requested a region-wide arrest warrant for the suspect in June. The suspect's last known whereabouts were reportedly in Poland.
The Polish national prosecutor's office also confirmed that it had received the order from Germany.
The Polish prosecutor's office also stated that the suspect was not arrested in Poland because he had left the country for Ukraine in early July.
The Nord Stream pipeline – running from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea – was destroyed in September 2022. To date, there has been no definitive conclusion as to who was responsible.
