(Photo: Minh Thu/Vietnam+) The International Photography Festival for High School Students in Japan has been a familiar competition for young people who love photography for many years. This year, the festival has the participation of 21 international teams and 2 Japanese teams. The bridge between Vietnamese contestants and this festival is photographer Nguyen Ba Han - as introduced by the Japan Photographers Association. In early 2024, photographer Ba Han organized the photo series contest "Proud Things About My City" from which three outstanding students were selected to participate in the festival in Japan. According to photographer Ba Han, this is a competition to encourage and develop the photography movement for Vietnamese students. The competition also creates opportunities for high school students to demonstrate their photography talent, helping them improve their ability to observe life, explore new angles and topics. Present at the launch and exchange on August 3, photographer Chu Chi Thanh, former war correspondent of Vietnam News Agency, gave many words of encouragement to the Ha Long team. He expressed his joy at seeing a young generation continuing the proud tradition of Vietnamese photography. “Participating in a foreign playground, with many international friends, you should be humble and brave, but most importantly, do not let yourself be influenced by surrounding factors, use your head and heart to find beauty, topics and then boldly press the shutter,” Mr. Chu Chi Thanh shared./.
Photographer Nguyen Ba Han was born in 1957 in Thua Thien-Hue and grew up in Nha Trang. After graduating from high school, he took the entrance exam for meteorology. At the age of 24, an accident occurred that left him with burns all over his body. His life fell into tragedy until he found joy and purpose in photography. In 2002, he was fortunate to have the opportunity to study photography in the US. Here, he was supported by American photographer Jerry Butchfield. From 1993 to 2014, he received many prestigious international awards and organized many photo exhibitions in many countries such as Japan, Italy, Switzerland, etc. He is currently a member of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA), the International Federation of Freelance Photojournalists (MP IFPO), and the International Federation of Photographic Arts (FIAP).
