On August 9th, the Inland Waterway Maintenance and Management Joint Stock Company No. 10 - the unit managing the Nghia Hung Canal lock (connecting the Day River with the Ninh Co River) - announced that at 11:30 AM on the same day, during operation, the winch cable pulling the sluice gate broke.
At this time, there are two vessels inside the lock chamber, unable to move out.

Immediately after discovering the problem, the canal management unit temporarily suspended lock operations to fix the oil leak from the gearbox of the water balance gate on the Day River end.
At the same time, develop a plan to resolve the issue; advise vehicle owners currently traveling on the route to adjust their itineraries during the repair period.
The cluster of canals connecting the Day River and Ninh Co River, part of the Northern Delta Transport Development Project (WB6 Project), broke ground on November 19, 2020, with a total investment of US$107.19 million, of which US$78.74 million is ODA loan from the World Bank and US$28.45 million is counterpart funding from the Vietnamese Government.
After the completion of the canal project connecting the Day River with the Ninh Co River, and after consulting with the Nam Dinh provincial government, the Ministry of Transport named the project complex Nghia Hung Canal and Nghia Hung Lock.
On July 25, 2023, the Ministry of Transport officially announced the opening of the Nghia Hung national inland waterway channel.
