By regularly maintaining 2,850 training targets (coaches, athletes) annually in 44 sports, Ho Chi Minh City has an abundant source of young people and has become one of the localities that regularly provides youth and national athletes for many sports.

Many of the athletes under the HCM City management have brought good results for Vietnamese sports at regional and continental competitions such as the 32nd SEA Games with a total of 31 gold medals, 24 silver medals and 20 bronze medals. Some athletes in the sports of Gymnastics and Taekwondo also won medals at the ASIAD and qualified for the Olympic qualifiers with Shooting, Badminton, etc. This affirms that HCM City is a source of quality athletes with great potential, contributing significantly to the success of national sports.

According to the assessment, one of the factors contributing to the above success must be the application of technology in selection and training. From continuous investment, construction, updating, and regular and continuous international standardization, Ho Chi Minh City has owned a team of highly qualified and experienced human resources.

Sharing about this issue, Mr. Nguyen Nam Nhan, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City said that over the past years, in order to improve the effectiveness of training and discover talents, Ho Chi Minh City has changed its modern training mindset and focused on applying modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and big data in the selection and assessment of training.

The application of modern technology can help accurately assess the ability of each athlete. Through the assessment, the coaching board can come up with more suitable and effective training plans. In addition, the selection time is also shortened, while ensuring objectivity and fairness in the assessment of athletes.

"Application of AI is a process that requires a deep understanding of sports expertise and a systematic and effective transformation process. Ho Chi Minh City identifies this as one of the top factors that need to be improved. Therefore, since the beginning of 2025, Ho Chi Minh City has organized a specialized training session to supplement knowledge about AI for coaches and athletes. Thereby, helping to firmly grasp the way to effectively use AI tools to optimize the training process" - Mr. Nguyen Nam Nhan said.

In addition, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City has also signed a cooperation agreement with the Institute of Sports Science and Technology. Accordingly, the Institute of Sports Science and Technology aims to support the improvement of training, consulting and transferring scientific and technological applications in the field of physical education and sports. consulting and transferring scientific and technological applications; organizing scientific seminars, events to launch new technological applications and training subjects in the world... Most recently, at the end of March, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City organized a Scientific Workshop on “Ho Chi Minh City Sports: Creating a Sports Economy – Taking the Lead in Technology – Reaching International Level” with the participation of experts, researchers and managers in the sports sector. The workshop focused on very topical topics, and was of great significance to Ho Chi Minh City with the goal of building a sustainable sports development strategy and maximizing the potential of technology in the field of sports, especially artificial intelligence AI.

Mr. Nguyen Nam Nhan affirmed that in the context of the country's strong transformation, sports play an increasingly important role in economic and social development and improving people's quality of life.
