Every Sunday morning, in communes and towns in Van Don district, environmental sanitation is carried out, with women and young people in the area as the core force. In order for environmental protection to become a habit of the people, the District Women's Union has focused on directing and spreading the "Green Sunday" movement at grassroots levels. From there, a sense of self-awareness about environmental sanitation in residential areas has gradually been formed.
The Women's Union of Ban Sen Commune is one of the grassroots associations that has successfully implemented the "Green Sunday" movement. The association has maintained regular environmental cleaning on 2-3 Sundays a month. In 3 years, the Women's Union of the commune has carried out 110 environmental cleaning sessions with more than 70% of female cadres and members participating in cleaning village roads and alleys, clearing grass, bushes along the roads, and cleaning up the grounds of the village cultural house. It has mobilized members and people to classify waste at home, clean up, and tidy up "clean houses, clean kitchens, clean alleys".
Ms. Le Thi Duong, Head of the Women's Association of Dien Xa village (Ban Sen commune) shared: "The "Green Sunday" movement has raised awareness of each person in protecting the environment, from which the village roads and alleys in the area are increasingly green - clean - beautiful. Up to now, the maintenance of the movement has spread to all people, everyone is excited to participate."
In Binh Lieu district, with many efforts in building new rural areas, the district has continuously launched high-profile campaigns in implementing difficult criteria, including environmental criteria. The goal is to focus on classifying and collecting waste at households and in fields, planting trees, ensuring water quality, and living in hygienic conditions.
Thanks to effective propaganda work, local people have effectively carried out environmental protection work, not littering in their homes, focusing on waste classification at home, ensuring hygienic living conditions, and building barns far from their homes. In addition, mobilizing the participation of the entire political system, Binh Lieu district has promoted the role of mass organizations, effectively launching the "Green Sunday" movement, the models of "5 no 3, clean", "Green living women's association" ... have all been enthusiastically implemented by the people, creating a strong spread.
Ms. Giap Thi Nghia, Women's Union of Na Lang village, Binh Lieu town shared: To reduce the amount of waste discharged into the living environment, I was guided by the Women's Union and implemented an organic composting model right at my household. I collected organic waste such as leaves, leftover food, spoiled fruit, etc. and mixed it with biological products to make biological fertilizer, and fertilized the plants. This work has had a great effect, after about 20 days this amount of waste has become an organic fertilizer product that is very safe for plants.
The province always identifies that propaganda, education, raising awareness, consciousness and responsibility for environmental protection, especially in rural areas, is always an important solution and needs to be given top priority. From there, the province has directed departments, branches and localities to carry out practical activities to propagate, disseminate and educate policies and laws on environmental protection. Organize conferences to propagate and disseminate legal documents on environmental protection, train and disseminate some provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection.
In addition, many models of waste classification at source, establishment of domestic waste collection routes and construction of waste collection and transfer points to ensure environmental sanitation; mobilizing households to treat domestic wastewater with septic tanks before discharging into the common drainage area of the area... contribute to protecting a healthy and sustainable living environment.
