The simple, honest life of the people of the old South appears clearly in the photos at the exhibition On the Memory Land - Photo: NVCC
The exhibition On the Memory Land takes place from April 26 to May 4 at the Vuon Nha Gom exhibition space (120 Gia Long, Lai Thieu, Binh Duong), an opportunity for the public to admire emotional images of a peaceful Southern land - a place that preserves many unique cultural values through each dedicated angle of a veteran photographer.
With 10 photo reports and 45 single photos, the exhibition takes viewers back to the memories of the old Lai Thieu - a peaceful land on the left bank of the Saigon River, famous for its 300-year-old pottery craft and the "four-season fruit granary" of the South.
Images such as Lai Thieu pottery wharf, Phu Long iron bridge over 100 years old, Phu Long communal house - national heritage, Lai Thieu old town, pottery artisans, making piggy banks, or everyday images of people wandering around selling pottery... are recreated with emotion, touching people's hearts.
Memories of Lai Thieu In the land of memories
Born in Saigon but having been attached to the land and people of Binh Duong for more than 40 years, photographer Huynh My Thuan considers Lai Thieu as his second hometown.
He has spent nearly three decades capturing tens of thousands of moments, from working life to culture, festivals, architecture and urban transformation. For him, photography is not only an art but also a way to preserve memories and pay tribute to the land that has embraced him over the years.
With tens of thousands of documentary photos and more than 100 domestic and international awards, Huynh My Thuan is considered a "photo storyteller" about the Southern land - Photo: NVCC
Not only recording the beauty of culture, architecture and life, the exhibition is also like a slice of time, comparing the past and the present.
Images of Lai Thieu iron bridge, the old town or folk festival activities that have now faded away are preserved by the author as a valuable archive of documents about the land that nurtured his soul and art.
The exhibition is not only an activity to celebrate the country's important historical event but also an opportunity for the public to review and appreciate the unique cultural values of a Southern region that is transforming and developing.
This is not only a way to preserve the author's memories but also a way to preserve the beauty that has gradually disappeared over time for future generations to admire - Photo: NVCC
The exhibition is open to the public, welcoming locals and tourists to come, experience and relive memories imbued with identity - where the past and present intersect in each frame.
