People were present at Bach Dang wharf with red flags with yellow stars in their hands.
Ho Chi Minh City is now covered with red flags with yellow stars of all sizes. From buildings, streets, propaganda billboards or on means of transport, the image of the flag, the belief and pride of the Vietnamese people stands out.
At 8:00 p.m. on April 29, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, from Pasteur intersection to Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, was packed with people.
The number of vehicles from all directions pouring into the center of Ho Chi Minh City is very large. Many people come early to choose a good spot to watch the parade celebrating the 30-4 holiday. Neighboring streets such as Ly Tu Trong, Vo Thi Sau, and Nam Ky Khoi Nghia also recorded a similar situation.
Many young people enthusiastically shared that they were going to the "national concert" to... review their history knowledge. Nguyen Ngoc Han's group (12th grade student, living in Cu Chi) arrived at 4pm. Han said that this was a special event that only happens once every 50 years, so the group tried to ask their parents for permission to go all night, waiting to fully enjoy this beautiful moment.
All four of them love history because it is the source of peace today. This event is an opportunity for the group to review historical knowledge and express gratitude to the generation that has been protecting peace for the Fatherland.
"We hope to meet the veterans to thank them. Because thanks to them, we can live in peace like today," Han said. In addition, the event also helped Han's group make many new friends who share the same national pride.
Ms. Pham Linh Nhi (27 years old, living in Binh Thanh district) smiled and talked while preparing her bag for a sleepless night at Bach Dang wharf. "This is an event that only happens once every 50 years, if I don't go see it, I will regret it for the rest of my life. I'm still young, I have to live every moment to the fullest," she said.
She said about half a month ago, she and her best friend planned for this special day, together choosing shirts with red flags with yellow stars, small hand-held flags, and youthful hair clips to wear when going out.
"I have been studying and working in Ho Chi Minh City for nearly 10 years. This is the first time I am about to see a parade on such a grand scale. It feels really exciting. Tonight, I was at Bach Dang wharf early, waiting for dawn with many other people. Sitting there, watching the Saigon River, listening to stories, waiting for the sunrise," Nhi said.
Ms. Nhi added that the event was not only an opportunity to watch military parades and hovercrafts, but also an opportunity to connect the hearts of people across the country, to feel more deeply national pride.
