Son Tay District (Quang Ngai) celebrates 30 years of district re-establishment

Attending the ceremony were representatives of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Provincial Fatherland Front Committee; leaders of the province and Son Tay district through the periods; leaders of departments, branches, districts, towns, and cities in the province; leaders of Anh Son district (Nghe An province) - the twinned district of Son Tay district; leaders of Nam Tra My district (Quang Nam), Kon Plong district (Kon Tum); veteran revolutionaries, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, war invalids, sick soldiers, policy families, families with meritorious services to the revolution, cadres and soldiers of the armed forces and a large number of cadres and people in the district.

Reading a speech at the ceremony, comrade Le Van Tung, Secretary of the Son Tay District Party Committee, highlighted the significance of the establishment of Zone VII (currently Son Tay District); reviewing the heroic tradition of the Party Committee, government, army and people of Son Tay District, who, together with the ethnic people of Quang Ngai Province, always stood shoulder to shoulder, steadfastly and bravely in the fight against foreign invaders, achieving many glorious feats, recorded in the golden pages of the province's history such as the Ta Muc, Bai Mau, Lang Ra, Xon Nit victories... Son Tay became the revolutionary base of the province and Zone V, contributing many human resources to the victory of the resistance war. In 1975, Son Tay District was merged into Son Ha District. On August 6, 1994, under Decree 83/CP of the Government, Son Ha District was divided into 2 districts, Son Ha and Son Tay. Son Tay District was officially re-established.

Over the past 30 years since the re-establishment of the district, during the period of national construction, innovation and development, the district Secretary highlighted the achievements and results, especially the economic growth rate maintained and developed stably, the production value increased from 10 billion VND (in 1994) to more than 1,200 billion VND (in 2023). The average income per capita has increased from nearly 1 million VND (in 1998) to nearly 60 million VND. The education and training sector has had positive changes. In 1994, the whole district had only 525 students going to school from grade 1 to grade 3 and 2/3 of the population had no education; 92.8% of people aged 15 to 35 were illiterate.

Up to now, there are 20 schools from kindergarten to high school; the scale, network of schools and facilities have been expanded, spacious and modern. The quality of education has been gradually improved, most of the staff and teachers have met the standards or higher, there have been students who have achieved the title of excellent students at the provincial level, passed the entrance exams to colleges and universities... Currently, 6/19 kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools have met national standards. The healthcare network has been strengthened in terms of infrastructure, equipment and human resources.

In addition, the poverty rate has decreased significantly, decreasing by 5.5 - 6% annually. Currently, the poverty rate has decreased to more than 34%, according to the multidimensional poverty standard for the period 2021 - 2025. Electricity, roads, schools and stations have been invested in and built. The material and spiritual life of the people has been improved. The economic structure has had positive changes, the socio-economic infrastructure system has been increasingly invested in, built and upgraded, many new traffic routes have been opened, and rural traffic has been increasingly developed. Agricultural and forestry production continues to be effectively promoted. Many new scientific advances have been applied. The cultural and social fields are increasingly developing, social security is ensured, the material and spiritual life of the people is constantly improved, cultural and artistic activities, and ethnic minority cultural traditions are preserved and promoted. National defense and security are maintained. The political system is consolidated and strengthened; The activities of the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations have clearly changed. The great national unity bloc has been consolidated; people's democracy has been increasingly promoted; people's trust in the leadership of the Party and the administration of the State has become increasingly solid.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Vo Phien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province affirmed that the achievements of Son Tay district in the past time are very proud, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity, self-reliance, self-strengthening, striving to integrate into the cause of innovation, integration and development. On behalf of the provincial leaders, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee warmly congratulated and commended the efforts, attempts and results that the Party Committee, government and people of Son Tay district have achieved over the past 30 years. Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee Vo Phien believes that, with the glorious revolutionary tradition, the spirit of solidarity, initiative and creativity, the Party Committee, government and people of Son Tay district will continue to promote the heroic, indomitable and glorious tradition; promote the strength of the great national unity bloc, love for the homeland, pride, self-reliance and creativity, determined to build Son Tay homeland in particular and the province to progress steadily on the path of industrialization and modernization, successfully realizing the goal of "rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization".

At the ceremony, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province presented Son Tay district with a banner bearing the words "Solidarity, innovation, aspiration and development". The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee presented a Certificate of Merit to the people and officials of Son Tay district for their achievements in the process of building and developing Son Tay district.

On this occasion, Anh Son district (Nghe An province) presented 05 gratitude houses to 05 ethnic minority households in difficult circumstances in Son Tay district.
