Krong Buk District: Towards sustainable development of durian industry

On the morning of April 23, the People's Committee of Krong Buk district held a conference on sustainable durian industry development in the district.

Attending the conference were Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology Tran Van Son; Head of the Provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection Nguyen Hac Hien; Head of the Provincial Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Product Quality Management Do Tuan Hung; Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Thinh, senior lecturer of Hanoi University of Commerce (Hanoi City) and representatives of departments, offices of the district, communes, towns; companies, enterprises, cooperatives, and cooperative groups in the district.

In the 2024 crop year, Krong Buk district has 4,545 hectares of durian (1,402 hectares of pure cultivation, 3,143 hectares of intercropping), of which 2,751 hectares produce products, with an output of 44,016 tons. In addition, the district also has 239 hectares of durian produced according to VietGAP standards, with an output of more than 3,000 tons/year. Krong Buk district has been granted 17 codes for durian growing areas for official export to China (283.93 hectares) and 3 export facilities by the Chinese Customs.

In the 2025 crop year, the durian area is expected to increase by 1,028 hectares compared to 2024; the total fruit output is estimated at 61,404 tons; support for the establishment of at least 5 registration files for growing area codes with an area of ​​over 100 hectares...

At the conference, the Department of Science and Technology announced the decision and awarded the Certificate of Declaration of the trademark "Krong Buk durian" to the locality.

To meet the requirements of the export market, delegates and durian growers of Krong Buk district were guided by representatives of specialized units on the management process and development of the “Krong Buk durian” certification; regulations on plant quarantine, food safety, growing area codes and packaging facilities. In particular, special emphasis was placed on controlling Cadmium residues, the banned substance Auramine O (yellow o substance) and solutions to limit chemicals and banned substances in production. At the same time, the contents on strengthening food safety control in the locality were disseminated.

In addition, delegates focused on discussing and contributing many ideas to clarify the achieved results, pointing out limitations, shortcomings and key tasks to improve the quality of durian production and consumption.

Concluding the conference, Chairman of the District People's Committee Hoang Kien Cuong emphasized: The District People's Committee continues to review, compile statistics, and evaluate the actual planting area, cultivation methods, and durian output to direct effective and safe production in the 2025 crop year. Along with that, strengthen the dissemination of regulations on management of planting area codes and agricultural product packaging facilities for export so that organizations and individuals can comply with the regulations.

The district will promote the transfer of scientific and technical advances, standardize production processes, apply digital economy in durian product consumption; support cooperatives, cooperative groups, and farmers to bring durian to e-commerce platforms, supermarket systems, and expand markets inside and outside the province. Along with that, continue to support the construction of certified growing areas according to the requirements of potential markets, attract businesses to invest in processing, consuming, and exporting products...
