Over the past 50 years, with a new, innovative mindset, daring to think and act, Long An has gradually focused on building and perfecting the transportation system, creating a foundation for the province's socio-economic development. Besides national highways, the former Provincial Road 49 (now National Highway 62) has helped develop and turn Dong Thap Muoi into a large rice granary of the country; Provincial Road 830 connects 4 districts in the key economic region, making the province the No. 1 position in the Mekong Delta in terms of industrial - commercial - service development.

Along with that, a series of transport works and projects are being implemented, promising to open up new development spaces, creating important momentum for socio-economic development, gradually realizing the goal of becoming a fairly developed province in the Southern Key Economic Zone and entering a new era of the nation with the whole country.

Building a transportation system from breakthrough thinking

The province's traffic and transportation system is invested synchronously and modernly, creating momentum for socio-economic development.

Long An has an important position as the gateway to the West, adjacent to Ho Chi Minh City. However, 20 years ago, the province's economy had not really made a breakthrough, agricultural production still accounted for a high proportion in the economic structure, attracting investment to the province was difficult when many investors did not really consider Long An an attractive destination. Although it had many potentials and advantages, at that time, the province's transportation system was still very backward and unsynchronized. In addition to national highways, most of the province's roads were small and narrow.

In response to the requirements of industrialization and modernization, in the last 3 Party Congresses, prioritizing resources to build a transport infrastructure system has been identified as one of the strategic breakthrough programs in socio-economic development. At the 9th Provincial Party Congress, term 2010-2015, the Program to Mobilize All Resources to Build a Transport, Electricity, and Water Infrastructure System to Serve Industrial Development was identified as one of the 4 breakthrough programs to implement the Congress Resolution.

Along with that, 3 traffic works including Long Hau - Tan Tap road, Thu Thua - Binh Thanh road and DT819 also became key projects. Since this Congress, an important foundation has been created in the construction and completion of the transport infrastructure system. The 10th and 11th Provincial Party Congresses have included in the resolutions key traffic works and built breakthrough programs to build a synchronous traffic system to serve the development of industry and urban areas in key economic zones.

According to Deputy Director of the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board - Tran Thien Truc, with a breakthrough mindset and the orientation of transportation leading the way, creating momentum for socio-economic development, up to now, the province's transportation system has basically met development requirements, contributing to exploiting potentials and strengths, especially in attracting investment.

Promoting the role of transportation in leading the way

The national key project of Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 is being invested in and constructed, promising to open up new space and development potential for the province.

According to the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board, identifying investment in the synchronous construction of the transport system as one of the province's strategic breakthroughs in socio-economic development, in recent years, the province has prioritized all resources to focus on investing in the transport system with a series of major transport projects completed and put into use, contributing to the formation of a relatively synchronous and modern transport network of the province. In particular, the key project DT830 has been completed, contributing to connecting 4 districts in the key economic region including Duc Hoa - Ben Luc - Can Duoc - Can Giuoc.

This is considered a very important transport project, playing a role in connecting economic centers, industrial zones and clusters of the province and neighboring areas with a number of large seaports such as Long An International Port, Hiep Phuoc Port, contributing to promoting socio-economic development for the whole region. In particular, at the 11th Provincial Party Congress, the province identified 3 key transport projects, which are the completion of Tan An City Ring Road and the bridge over the Vam Co Tay River; DT830E (section from the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway interchange to DT830) and DT827E. Along with that, the province identified investment in transport projects under the Breakthrough Program to Mobilize All Resources to build a synchronous transport infrastructure system to serve the development of industry and urban areas in the province's key economic zones.

Up to now, Tan An City Ring Road and the bridge over the Vam Co Tay River have been completed and put into operation, contributing to the development of urban infrastructure, traffic connection, and socio-economic development of Tan An City and neighboring districts such as Thu Thua, Chau Thanh, and Tan Tru. Along with that, the province is focusing on implementing the DT830E project (from the intersection of Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway to DT830) and the DT827E project.

According to Mr. Tran Thien Truc, along with the province's traffic works, the unit is currently focusing on implementing the key project - Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 section passing through the province, ensuring the completion of the expressway section in 2025 and the entire project in 2026 according to the Government's direction.

“With the priority of investment in transport infrastructure, up to now, the province's transport system has basically met development requirements, creating new development spaces and spaces to help the province exploit its potential and strengths, making breakthroughs in attracting investment and developing socio-economic development,” Mr. Tran Thien Truc affirmed.

Over the past 50 years, with its pioneering role and mission, the transport infrastructure system invested in the province has created an important launching pad for the province's socio-economic development. From a purely agricultural province, Long An has now made a remarkable breakthrough, becoming an industrial province with an economic scale among the top in the country, gradually realizing the goal of becoming a fairly developed province in the Southern Key Economic Zone and, together with the whole country, firmly entering a new era of the nation./.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, up to now, the whole province has 141/160 communes meeting new rural standards (NTM), accounting for 88.13%. Of these, 52 communes have met advanced NTM standards, 9 communes have met model NTM standards; 5 district-level units have met/completed the task of building NTM and 1 district has met advanced NTM standards.

In particular, the biggest highlight in building the new rural area is the rural transport system that has been invested in and built with a system of synchronously built commune and hamlet roads, ensuring convenient traffic to commune centers as well as serving the production needs of the people.
