Dak Nong receives UNESCO Global Geopark title for the second time

Dak Nong Provincial Geopark continues to be recognized by UNESCO as a Global Geopark for the second time in the period 2024-2027.

On the evening of December 26, the People's Committee of Dak Nong province held a ceremony to receive the title of Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark for the second time, period 2024-2027.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Ho Van Muoi, Chairman of Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee, said that this title marks an important turning point, bringing Dak Nong province officially into the UNESCO Global Geopark Network, including 213 destinations in 48 countries around the world.

Sharing here, Mr. Guy Martini, Chairman of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council, Secretary General of the Global Geoparks Network, sent a congratulatory video message to the province, recognizing Dak Nong's efforts in the past journey.

According to Mr. Guy Martini, Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark is a typical example of the harmonious connection between nature and humans, and is also a symbol of Vietnam's strong commitment to implementing sustainable development goals.

UNESCO is committed to continuing to accompany Dak Nong province to promote the value of the title, turning heritage into an important resource for sustainable development.

The title is a recognition of the timeless values ​​that Dak Nong province has preserved and developed over the years. At the same time, this title also has a profound meaning, reminding the locality of the great responsibility in maintaining and continuing to develop the heritage.

Earlier, in the afternoon of the same day, the People's Committee of Dak Nong province held a workshop with the theme "Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark with the goal of sustainable development".

The workshop was attended by over 150 delegates representing the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, etc.

The scientific workshop aims to discuss and clarify the relationship between Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark and sustainable development goals; find creative initiatives and solutions to promote sustainable tourism, conserve natural resources, and protect the unique cultural values ​​of ethnic groups in Dak Nong.

Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark was recognized by UNESCO as a Global Geopark in July 2020. Covering an area of ​​4,760km2 , with about 65 geological and geomorphological heritage sites. The park has a system of nearly 50 caves with a total length of more than 10,000m, still containing many mysteries.
