I consider Tet as a time for people to temporarily put aside work and hustle and bustle, to spend more time with family, relatives and friends. The shared joy and festive atmosphere during this time is pleasant, and at the same time reminds us, who live far from our homeland, of our roots.
Expect a bold, thorough approach
At the Indonesian Embassy, we also celebrate Tet every year. The Vietnamese staff of the Embassy return to their homeland to see their families. Meanwhile, our Indonesian staff also use this time to spend time with family and friends, either at home or traveling to popular destinations in Vietnam. With Vietnam’s growing tourism industry and more and more alternative means of transportation, traveling around Vietnam’s tourist destinations has become an enjoyable experience.
With the achievements in 2024, we set a higher target for Indonesia-Vietnam relations for 2025. In 2024, our trade and investment will grow exponentially, with total bilateral trade increasing by 21% to US$16.7 billion and two-way investment reaching a significant high.
In 2025, our aspiration is to renew our commitments and work together towards our shared vision of becoming high-income countries by 2045. Looking ahead, I believe this will require bold, thoughtful approaches – in keeping with the characteristics of the Year of the Snake.
Particularly as our two countries celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, we hope to further promote bilateral relations, open up new opportunities for cooperation, and strengthen our foundation in promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
Trust in Vietnam
In 2024, Vietnam surpassed many of its own forecasts and targets, achieving economic growth of 7.09% - making it one of the fastest growing economies in the world. This was achieved against a backdrop of many challenges, including Typhoon Yagi, which caused significant damage and disruption. If this trend continues, Vietnam will be on track to achieve its goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045 and achieving its goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
I am confident that Vietnam will increasingly have more influence in the international community. Through cooperation, international integration and proactive policies, Vietnam will make a stronger contribution to peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
Now, as ASEAN members reflect on our common vision, Indonesia is pleased to see Vietnam's development and is ready to cooperate with Vietnam in strategic areas.
I truly believe that Vietnam is an important partner in addressing global challenges such as economic resilience, peacebuilding and sustainable development.
On this wonderful occasion of Tet, I would also like to wish the Vietnamese people a happy and prosperous new year.
Happy New Year!
