Built more than 100 houses for the poor

“Seeing the difficult lives, I suddenly realized that if everyone can share a little, everyone can spread the joy of life” – that is what Tran Huynh Quang Trieu (31 years old) shared with Dan Viet .

Quang Trieu said he was born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City, attended university and graduated with a degree in journalism. He believes he is lucky in life, but also realizes that there are many people out there whose lives and families face many difficulties.

Therefore, Quang Trieu established the Minh Phuoc Volunteer Group and the Minh Phuoc Shelter project, hoping to create safe shelters to help people in the West overcome adversity.

He and the Minh Phuoc Charity Group have affirmed the mission of “giving is forever” through the journey of building more than 100 charity houses for disadvantaged families in the West. Each brick and layer of cement placed on the house not only has material meaning but also represents the sharing of the whole community, opening up hope and improving the quality of life for people in the Mekong Delta.

Among the typical works, there is the house of Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong (born in 1972) in My Phu A hamlet, Hoa My, Hau Giang, who lives with his 5th grade daughter - Nguyen Thi Anh Thu (2012) - under a flimsy, patchwork tent made of canvas and fabric.

Quang Trieu said that Mr. Phuong has severe tuberculosis, has just had an accident and is bedridden, has no income, and although his daughter still wears a bright red uniform, her future in school is increasingly uncertain.

There are only 1-2 months left until the rainy season in the West, the current hut is not enough to protect against the rain and wind, Mr. Phuong's family urgently needs a solid roof to preserve their health and foster hope for their children.

When receiving support from the Minh Phuoc Charity Group, Mr. Phuong shared: “My life and my son’s life have changed significantly since we have been able to live in a new house. This is something my son and I never dared to dream of. Now, my son has a place to study, I don’t have to worry about rain and wind. I am grateful for the kindness of those who joined hands to build this house for my family.”

Journey of Love - Giving is Forever

From journeys on poor country roads to stressful moments battling harsh weather, Minh Phuoc Volunteer Group has focused on building sustainable, safe houses for less fortunate families.

More than 100 charity houses have been built, not only as shelter from the sun and rain, but also as a foundation to help people in difficult circumstances settle down and gradually rise up. This is also a model that contributes practically to improving the criteria of “residential housing” in the new rural construction program, demonstrating a clear change in the economic and social life of rural people.

The project also contributes to the emulation movement to implement the Prime Minister's program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide by 2025.

For Quang Trieu and his friends, happiness is when they can share love. Houses are built not only with bricks and stones, but with all their hearts – because “giving is forever”.

With its contributions, Minh Phuoc Volunteer Group was recently awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union for its outstanding achievements in implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Construction for the period 2021-2025. Previously, Minh Phuoc Group was also awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union for two consecutive years for its outstanding achievements in the volunteer movement and was also awarded a Certificate of Merit by many provinces and cities for its contributions to social security activities.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dat (in Ho Chi Minh City), a volunteer of Minh Phuoc Group shared: “I have accompanied Quang Trieu for many years. Every time I come to the project, seeing the happy smiles on the faces of the people, I feel the power of humanity. We are not only building houses, but also building trust and hope for the future”.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Anh (in Ho Chi Minh City) - a philanthropist who joined hands to support the project said: "I believe that everyone has a responsibility to contribute to making society better. When I heard about the Minh Phuoc Shelter project and Quang Trieu's journey, I decided to contribute financially so that safe shelters can replace makeshift houses. It is not just about building houses, but also about building hope for the future of families."

In addition to organizing house building, Quang Trieu and his volunteers also regularly organize cooking activities at hospitals, give gifts to people in difficult circumstances at the border, support health insurance for disadvantaged groups, and implement social security programs in many provinces and cities.
