President Luong Cuong meets with Vietnamese community and businesses in Laos

According to the special correspondent of VNA, within the framework of the State visit to the Lao PDR, on the afternoon of April 25, President Luong Cuong and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation met with representatives of associations, businessmen, intellectuals and the Vietnamese community in Laos.

Speaking at the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam said that there are currently about 100,000 Vietnamese expatriates living, working and studying in Laos, of which nearly 40,000 live and work in the capital Vientiane. Over the past time, the Embassy has always paid attention to supporting the Vietnamese community in Laos, helping overseas Vietnamese feel secure in doing business and living, contributing to the socio-economic development of Laos.

The Ambassador affirmed that the Vietnamese community in Laos has a revolutionary tradition, has made many contributions to the cause of national liberation, unification and construction; actively responded to the policies of our Party and State, participated in activities towards the roots, and at the same time had good relations with the local government.

Reporting to President Luong Cuong about the lives of Vietnamese people in the host country, Mr. Pham Van Hung, Chairman of the General Association of Vietnamese People in Laos, said that the Vietnamese community in Laos has a tradition of patriotism, solidarity, preservation of national identity, good relations with the government and people of the host country, strictly abides by Lao laws and has made many contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland of Laos and Vietnam.

The Vietnamese community in Laos has many active activities in contributing to economic development, helping each other develop; at the same time, actively participating in the common activities of the host country and volunteer activities, poverty reduction and a number of other activities in the localities.

Some community representatives spoke to express their emotion and pride in overseas Vietnamese when they always receive special and consistent attention from the Party and State leaders towards the overseas Vietnamese community, including Vietnamese people living in Laos; at the same time, they made a number of proposals and recommendations with the hope of receiving support to be able to integrate well into the host society, preserve cultural traditions, Vietnamese language and turn towards the homeland.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Luong Cuong sent his warm regards and sincere feelings to the people; highly appreciated the important contributions of the Vietnamese community in Laos to the economic development of Laos, contributing to stabilizing social security in the neighboring country.

The President expressed his delight at seeing that wherever they are, Vietnamese people are actively preserving and promoting the fine and precious traditions of the Vietnamese people, always supporting and helping each other in business as well as in life, joining hands to build the Vietnamese community in Laos to develop and become stronger.

President Luong Cuong said that this official visit aims to promote the implementation of high-level agreements between the two Parties and States to continue to consolidate and bring the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos deeper, more substantial and more effective. In his exchange with the highest leaders of Laos, President Luong Cuong asked the Lao side to continue creating conditions for Vietnamese people living and working in Laos to integrate into the society, contributing to the development of Laos.

Sharing with the people about the country's socio-economic development, domestic and foreign affairs, President Luong Cuong affirmed that our Party and State always pay attention to the Vietnamese community abroad, including the Vietnamese community in Laos; always identify the Vietnamese community abroad as an inseparable part of the great national unity bloc, an important resource of the Vietnamese people and a factor contributing to strengthening the cooperative and friendly relations between Vietnam and other countries.

Acknowledging and sharing the contributions, suggestions and recommendations of representatives of associations, businessmen, intellectuals and the people, President Luong Cuong affirmed that the Party and State will continue to improve mechanisms to create more favorable conditions for people to maintain connections with their homeland and participate in investment, business and innovation activities in Vietnam.

President Luong Cuong expressed his belief that the Vietnamese community in Laos will continue to develop, become increasingly stable, integrate, and comply with the laws of the host country, becoming a solid bridge and directly fostering the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos. He hoped that associations would continue to promote their role in connecting overseas Vietnamese to create a cohesive community, standing side by side to support each other, and creating favorable business conditions in the neighboring country.

On this occasion, President Luong Cuong also sent gifts to overseas Vietnamese and presented the Lao-Vietnamese bilingual school Nguyen Du with a Vietnamese bookcase and more than 120 books to support teachers and students in continuing to promote the teaching and learning of Vietnamese, contributing to preserving the identity and culture of the nation in the Vietnamese community in Laos.
