Elderly care in remote area of Di Linh |
Mr. K'Bia is one of 450 elderly people in Bao Thuan commune, Di Linh who have been examined and treated by doctors and nurses. Mr. K'Bia shared: “People in Bao Thuan commune still have difficulties and hardships. Old people like me and the people around also have many illnesses, like me, with bone and joint pain, many people have high blood pressure, headaches, and frequent coughs. But it is far to go to the district, and our children and grandchildren are busy with many things. Now that doctors from outside the district have come to examine and treat us, we are very happy because we receive dedicated health care.”
Mr. Le Van Luong - Head of Di Linh District Health Department shared that in recent times, Di Linh District has actively implemented many activities to improve the physical and mental health of the elderly, especially the elderly from ethnic minorities. In particular, the elderly health care activities under Project 7, the Socio-economic Development Program for Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the period 2021-2030 (referred to as Project 7) have initially been effectively implemented. Thanks to that, many ethnic minority elderly have better access to health services and are cared for, improved and promoted in their health.
Mr. Le Van Luong informed that, implementing the elderly health care activities under Project 7, the People's Committee of Di Linh district has allocated funds to the Health Department to plan to coordinate with the Health Center to implement a communication campaign, examination, and initial health consultation for the elderly over 60 years old in 10/16 communes in ethnic minority areas. The goal of the campaign is to strive for over 60% of the elderly to receive communication and periodic health examinations, and screening for some common diseases; 100% of the elderly participating will have their health management records established, be monitored, and be advised on nutrition, lifestyle, and treatment appropriate to the progression of non-communicable chronic diseases. Through the program, it aims to raise awareness and sense of responsibility of each individual, family, and community in taking care of the elderly's health; at the same time, increase access to health care services, improve, and enhance the health of people in ethnic minority areas. "Life is improving day by day, the number of elderly people is increasing, this is a good sign for the community, at the same time it also requires the health sector to make more efforts", Mr. Le Van Luong shared more.
In order for the communication campaign and initial medical examination for the elderly to achieve high results, the District Health Center has prepared conditions to serve the campaign such as: facilities, medical equipment, mobilizing highly skilled human resources to participate in medical examination. Participating in the campaign, doctors and nurses conducted periodic health examinations, screening for some common diseases and establishing electronic health records; communicating about health care for the elderly, consulting on nutrition, physical exercise and sports for the elderly. This is the basis for the District Health Center to store records, serving people for medical examination and treatment at the unit. Doctor Le Cong Tuan - Deputy Director of the District Health Center said that the elderly often have health problems, mainly non-communicable diseases such as: bones and joints, asthma, cardiovascular disease, etc. Health care for the elderly is implemented by the health sector right at the commune health station, where the elderly can go quickly and conveniently. Examination, treatment and health care for the elderly right at the local level is also an opportunity to improve the skills of doctors and medical staff at commune health stations.
“Implementing the elderly health care activities under Project 7 of the District People's Committee, the Health Department and the Health Center organized a communication campaign and provided initial health check-ups in 10 communes of ethnic minority areas with 4,400 people over 60 years old receiving medical examinations. In 2025, to better implement the elderly health care work in the area, the health sector will continue to advise on the implementation of specific activities such as: strengthening the leadership and direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels on elderly health care; promoting propaganda to change behavior, and participating with society in taking care of the elderly's health," added Mr. Le Van Luong.
Caring for the elderly not only helps improve physical and mental health and increase longevity, but also helps them live happily and healthily, promoting exemplary roles in their families, clans and communities.
