According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in August 2024, total rainfall in the Northern region will generally be approximately the same as the average of many years.

In September 2024, total rainfall will generally be 10 - 30% higher than the average. Meanwhile, in October 2024, total rainfall will generally be 10 - 20% lower than the average for the same period.

From August to October 2024, there will be about 3-5 periods of moderate rain, widespread heavy rain and some local heavy rain. Be on guard against heavy rain, thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning and hail in September and October 2024.

Notably, from August to October 2024, the peak flood level on major rivers in the Northern region will be at alert level 1 to 2, while small rivers and streams will be at alert level 2 to 3, generally higher than in 2023 and lower than the average. Floods will commonly occur in the period of August to September 2024.

Water resources on rivers in the Northern region continue to be at a deficit compared to the average. Specifically, the flow to large reservoirs in the Da River basin is 30-40% short; Gam River and Chay River are 15-30% short, Thao River, Lo River and Red River basins are 40-50% short.
