The research report introduces two new classifications: overweight, clinical obesity and overweight, preclinical obesity. In which, scientists say, overweight, clinical obesity applies to people with high BMI, other signs of overweight, obesity and clear evidence of organ damage, tissue or other problems related to being overweight.
These problems include heart disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, kidney disease, or severe chronic pain in the joints.
These cases need to be treated with interventions such as diet, exercise and medication to help lose weight and fight obesity.
According to Mr. David Cummings, an expert on overweight issues at the University of Washington (USA) and one of the 58 authors of the report published in the above journal, the above criteria for determining overweight and obesity will provide a more accurate assessment, helping to focus on those who need the most support.
It is estimated that more than 1 billion people worldwide are overweight or obese . The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that about 40% of adults in the country have serious health problems.
