Meeting historical witnesses on April 30
On April 28, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (HCMC) organized a program to celebrate "50 years of Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day, April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025", with the participation of 3 liberation soldiers on tank 390 that crashed into the gate of the Independence Palace at noon on April 30, 50 years ago - a historic moment that contributed to ending the 21-year resistance war against the invading American imperialists of the Vietnamese people.
They were Captain Vu Dang Toan - former political commissar of tank 390, Lieutenant Ngo Si Nguyen - former gunner of tank 390, Sergeant Nguyen Van Tap - former driver of tank 390. The ceremony was also attended by Colonel, Doctor Nguyen Hong Minh - former officer of Battalion B18 who entered the Independence Palace at noon on April 30, 1975 and Colonel Pham Ngoc Khoa - former commander of the Tan Son Nhat airport border gate police.
"The ceremony is not only an opportunity for the young generation to review the heroic history of the nation, but also a valuable opportunity for them to listen, feel, and appreciate more the value of peace and freedom today," the school shared.

A few kilometers away, teachers and students of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School (HCMC) visited Ms. Le Nguyen Hong Minh - daughter of the late General Secretary Le Hong Phong and the late Secretary of the Saigon-Cho Lon Party Committee Nguyen Thi Minh Khai. Teachers and students heard authentic memories about the lives and exploits of the two national heroes who contributed to shaping the country today.
Here, Luong Ngoc Bao Chau, a student of class 10A15 and a member of the Standing Committee of the Youth Union of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai School, said she was extremely moved when hearing Mrs. Minh tell that in her entire life, she only met her father once and also only felt the warmth in her mother's arms for a short time, all of which happened when she was just born. The portrait of Mrs. Minh's parents is only portrayed through the stories told by her adoptive parents and everyone else...
"The visit changed the definition of the word 'peace' in my mind. Peace to me now is not just a life without war, but a life where we can grow up peacefully, feel the 'taste of happiness' both physically and mentally, and not face separation. Peace is a sacred thing," Chau confided.

"I am extremely proud and grateful to our ancestors, the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the two words 'freedom' and 'peace'. The heroic past of the Vietnamese people is the motivation for young people like me to strive and make efforts to become useful citizens for the country, to have the opportunity to contribute to the cause of building the homeland in the era of national development," the male student confided.
Not only did they have many activities to celebrate April 30, high schools from the North to the South also enthusiastically shared images of their teaching buildings "dyed" in the bright red of the national flag. The appearance of the national flag in every corner of the classroom and in every hallway not only evoked national pride among teachers and students but also demonstrated the spirit of the North and South uniting on the National Reunification Day.
