Students apply for admission to grade 10 for the 2024-2025 school year
Additional recruitment rate reached 63.54%
At the end of the admission process, according to statistics from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the whole city had 1,400 successful candidates out of a total additional enrollment target of 2,203, reaching a rate of 63.54%.
According to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters, except for the top 3 high schools Nguyen Thuong Hien, Phu Nhuan and Le Quy Don, which have no students registered, the remaining schools have recruited additional students for the 2024-2025 school year. Among them, there are schools that have recruited additional 10th grade students , reaching 100%, meeting the quota assigned by the Department of Education and Training.
For example, the additional enrollment quota for grade 10 this year at Ngo Gia Tu High School (District 8) is 60 students. Meanwhile, according to information from the department receiving additional enrollment applications, the number of students registering for the school exceeded the quota. Therefore, with the admission score of 14.25, when receiving cases with low scores and a low chance of being admitted, the school advised parents and students to apply to other schools to increase their chances of studying in grade 10 at public schools.
Similarly, the Principal of Da Phuoc High School (Binh Chanh District) said that the school's additional enrollment target for grade 10 this year is 98 students and the school has already recruited enough students.
In particular, the additional enrollment target for grade 10 at Le Thi Hong Gam High School (District 3) was 38 students, but 100 people registered. The school representative said the additional standard score was 15.75, an increase of 0.75 points compared to the standard score for the third choice in the first enrollment round.
Phong Phu High School (Binh Chanh District) has the largest additional enrollment quota of 300 students, and the school received 78 qualified applications. Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Tam, Principal of Phong Phu High School, said that most of the candidates from outside the district scored above 14 points, while those from within the district scored 13.5 points...
The 2024-2025 school year is the second year that the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training organizes additional recruitment for grade 10. This year, 36 public high schools are recruiting additional students with 2,203 targets.
The schools with the highest enrollment quota for grade 10 are Phong Phu High School (Binh Chanh District) with 300 students. Following are Nguyen Van Linh High School (District 8) with 191 students, An Nhon Tay High School (Cu Chi District) with 140 students, and Nguyen Van Tang High School (Thu Duc City) with 134 students.
The condition for participating in the additional 10th grade admission is that students do not pass any of their wishes to public high schools and must have 10th grade exam scores in 3 subjects: math, literature, foreign language and priority points (if any) greater than or equal to the standard score of the 3rd wish of the public high school they want to register for admission.

New points in additional admission create opportunities for students and schools
However, in this year's supplementary recruitment, Ho Chi Minh City has applied new scores for suburban areas far from the center, which are facing difficulties in recruitment.
For students who have studied at secondary schools in the districts of Can Gio, Nha Be, Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Cu Chi and Thu Duc City, if they register for schools in the same area as their secondary school, the total entrance exam score of the candidate will be considered according to the standard score of the first choice of the public high school they want to register for.
The Department of Education and Training also gave specific notes that Thu Duc City is divided into 3 areas, of which area 1 includes schools in the old District 2, area 2 includes schools in the old District 9, and area 3 includes schools in the old Thu Duc District.
Ms. Hoang Thi Hao, Principal of Dao Son Tay High School (Thu Duc City), assessed that the new points in the additional admission conditions this year that the Department of Education and Training stipulated for students in the districts of Can Gio, Nha Be, Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Cu Chi and Thu Duc City have created conditions for schools to meet their enrollment quotas; students have the opportunity to study at public schools. This is especially valuable for students in remote areas with many limited conditions.
In the above localities, examination officials said that all high schools with additional admissions achieved an admission rate of 85% to 90% (an annual average is only 75% to 80%). Of which, more than 50% of the additional admitted candidates of these schools are living and studying in the same area as the admitted schools. This ensures favorable conditions for studying and traveling for candidates.
At the end of the 10th grade admission process this year, Mr. Le Hoai Nam, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, assessed: The results of the supplementary admission for the 2024-2025 school year showed that the supplementary admission work has helped ensure the rights of students who failed 3 wishes but still have high scores to continue studying at public schools in the area.
